I am getting my new Savage tomorrow and I have been studying the break in procedure in the manual. Are you supposed to let the engine cool down between tanks or do you just let it idle for the first tank until it dies and fill it up and start driving in circles at less then half throttle as long as the engine doesn't get too hot.

Let the engine cool and make sure the piston is at the bottom of it's stroke.

ya let it cool down all the way. Its tedious, but the more time you spend breaking in the engine instead of jumping right into full throttle bashing after 3 tanks of circles, the more your engine will thank you and repay you with a longer lifespan.

I got my new Savage today. It looks awsome.

I started the break in process but I couldn't keep it running. After about 5 minutes it seemed like it picked up rpms. The wheels were also turning pretty fast. A few minutes after it died. I could got it to start 2 more times, then I couldn't get it to fire again. I thought it was flooded so I took the plug out and turned the motor over. I also checked the glow plug and it gets red hot. Still wouldn't start. I decided I would try again tomorrow.

Any ideas on keeping it running during break in. Do I need to adjust the carb some how.

Any help would be appreciated.

You didn't touch the needle settings, right? Was it a display at a hobby shop where someone could have turned the high side? Its probably a good thing to use a temp gauge, I didn't have one when I was breaking in my motor so I used one that use use for cooking turkeys, worked okay for getting a estimate for where I was at.

I didn't touch any of the needles until I couldn't get it started again. Then I turned the low speed needle counter clock wise 1/8 of a turn with no results so I put it back.

It came from Tower Hoppies and was still in the origininal plastic. I have a temp guage and it was at 170 when it died. It hadn't run for very long at all.

Yea, it was on a starting block. I was able to get it to idle through a tank of fuel during my lunch hour. So all is well.

Sorry, about the lame questions I just don't want to tear it up before I even get to see what it will do.

I love the smell of Nitro.

Ok, got the Savage broke in finally. While doing the break-in I discovered that if the truck gets out of range it doesn't stop. I'm new to Nitro RC's if you hadn't guessed. No damage or anything but I need a little advice on what fail save will work with my hpi radio equipment. I also want to get a battery pack for the receiver and I don't know what's best unless the 4 AA Duracell batteries are good enough.

Get a 5 cell battery pack, I use a 3300 Mah. You don't need 3300 Mah, a 1500+ should do the trick. I clipped the wire from my standard 4 AA battery pack so I have the whole wire and the BEC connector. I plug the BEC connector into the switch wire, and have a Tamiya connector soldered to the end of the wire so I can plug it into the Tamiya so it is a stronger connection. Well, thats what I do. You could also just clip the side that doesn't have the wire and plug that directly into where you would normally plug the battery into. i just use the Tamiya connector because I need the length to get to my switch wire because my battery is in my front bumper
