Before I start my third ezstart battery maybe you guys could help me.
Its 45 out and I've waited about 3 weeks to break my 3.3 in and I can't seem to keep it running.

I had lost the factory settings so they are set back to what the manual stated, although I am worried since I read alot about the sensitivity of the needles.

so I can get it to run and idle for a couple seconds then it cuts out, it lasts if I give it gas, so I went into breakin even though the car will not move while i give it gas. give it too much gas it cut out again.

Its blowing out a good about of blue smoke.

It sometimes cuts out at unpredictable times.

should I just keep at it? maybe lean it out a bit? Its getting a bit tedious driving to a good clear spot for breakin when I can't get it to stay on for more the a few seconds.

I realize this is a repeat post but id rather ask then screw this up
thanks

Lean the top (HSN) an hour and see if that helps. Patience goes a long way with nitro motors when your new. As does learning that very small adjustments do big things. I wouldn't really touch the low end (LSN) until then. If you go an hour on top and it still seems fat, boggy and otherwise won't run, try one more hour. Do you have a temp gun? If not, it's the best $20-$25 you can spend.

Yup i have an on board temp gauge and a hand held, but i haven't been able to keep the engine on enough to get a good feel for the running temp. as of right now it hasn't gotten past 170, again supporting the leaning out of the engine. I go and give it a try thanks

Depending on how cold it is, the air gets more dense. Which means your engine is actually recieving more air. Richening it up would be the way to go. You may want to adgjust your idle to be a tad higher but not much more.

During break in can be frustrating so take your time.

definitely frustrating, It began to respond better when the engine got to full temp which was 235 degrees.

Whenever I let off the throttle the engine will rev up then down then stall, it take about 5-6 seconds.

also I'm getting liquid coming out of the exhaust, is that normal? Its orange in color. I had gotten it stuck at tdc a couple weeks ago so the manual said to use light machine oil in the glowplug port. All I had was gun oil? so i put 2 drop in, set the piston to bdc and put it all back together. I went back to break it in had it started showing the same issues as now. I figured it was too cold so I decided to wait for the break in. I followed the dvd and drained the fuel, pulled the glowplug and air filter, then sprayed it with wd-40, drained then cleaned it up and put it back together. Does this sound right?

thanks for your patience

If it is not designed for a glow engine, than no. There is no point in risking using something like that. I am not sure on the chracteristics on it. Marverl mystery oil is fine. Ask your LHS what they carry for ARO.

As far as your orange liquid, that is normal to see during break in. Sounds likeyou are following the Traxxas instructions. Keep that up.

Not that I'm a pro but when I broke mine in 2 weekends ago the temp was about 33-35 I had foil around the coil. I did 3 tanks that day and 3 and qaurter next day and it was warmer around 39-40 no problems until I switched glow plugs after break in and I didnt tune, glow plug popped. Today I had great results in tuning and performance 48 degrees.

Well i got through the first four tanks. It began responding better at the engine temp went up, problem is my on-board temp gauge got to 300 at one point while my hand held barely broke 200. I've been going off the on-board and kept it at 230-240, still a bit high.
I think its running lean on the low end. I don't get much smoke until almost full throttle and there nothing smooth about, it hopps and shutters until I get to full throttle, this worries me during break in because as smooth as I try to pull the trigger in order to follow directions it goes from bogdown to wot in less then a sec sometimes. It also doesn't idle for more then 10 seconds and wont stay on without about half throttle until the engine get warmed up, I sometimes have to sit there with the ezstart for like a min or 2 until it stays-I on my fifth battery charge.

I'm just going to keep at it and do my best to keep the temp right. I just feel like after four tanks the thing should begin to run normal. Its probably my tuning needles being off. I'm just going to get through the last tank and get to tuning.

hopefully tomorrow i'll have better new.

I figured out what the problem was, it was my traxxas temp gauge. It was reading high, which caused me to run extra rich. I'd begin to lean it out and the gauge would read 290 so I'd back it down. I should've used the hand held gun. I figured it out when I couldnt get it to high 2nd gear but the gauge read 270. Looks like i broke it in undertemp but oh well had to learn someway.

I still get some shuttering in the lowend but I think its my radio set to 70/30 not 50/50, when i set the arc to increase the throttle a bit quicker it solved most of it. I also dont see much smoke at low rpms but at half throttle it pours out of it, I still need to work on my tuning.

I'll change the glow plug for good measure, thanks for all the help

same thing happened to me and you need a new glow plug. I recomend mecoy :celebrate:
