Just finished building my Savage X SS and want to break it in. What's the coldest recommended outside temps to do it in? We're gonna have some 40s here this week...still too cold? Any feedback is appreciated thanks ahead of time!

i honestly dont know, I'm impatient and will do it anyways tho lol. id guess tha tas long as the engine temps are up.

Wrap the head, keep it smoking good and put it to bottom dead center after every run. And prepare to buy/rebuild the engine once warmer weather hits. Not the biggest deal in the world I guess.:) Just make sure to follow your break in method as close as you can.

It can be wrapped with aluminum foil tape that's used for HVAC ducts or even a baby sock.

I preferred the foil tape when I ran in cold weather.

I prefer masking tape so long as it's not below 25f out. Goes on easy, comes off easy, holds heat in and sheds water should you get some snow on it.

I was also wondering, does all the breaking in need to be done in one running? Or can it be split up on different days for instance? Just wondering thx!

Any time you want. Since the engine should cool down completely before the next start, there no time limit.
Just don't do it when it's cold, because it will cool too fast, plus it will have to run rich. Neither one is good for a proper break in.

i'm updating everyone on my stubbornness! lol i wrapped the head in aluminum foil, and fired it up today, it was 31 degrees out. the engine got hotter than i could touch with light running, and still splatting a good amount of fuel.
