well i got my new savage 25 rtr today! the engine manul says that you idil through 1 tank of gas and then run it in circles at 1/4 throttle for 2 tanks... i put the 4th tank in and started to lean in out and go faster...i only ran it like this for about 5 minutes then i decided to shut it off because it was getting dark and cold...if i wasn't supposed to go fast until take 7 or 8 .....did i do something bad...pleeeeaseee say no

sorry for the spelling and the long post....but information is appriciated

Most break-in proceedures are the same. Idle a whole tank slobbering rich. Then lean it up just enough so that it will move and stay running at 1/2 throttle for one tank. Then lean it up some more so that it will do the same at full throttle, do this for a tank or two. Then start leaning it up so that it goes faster on subsequent tanks. The idea is to get the heat up gradually so that the engine will de-stress itself and the parts will wear-in slowly. get a temp gun, radio shack has them for around $25 and it will help alot to have one. During breakin, never go above 230-240 degrees f. Once you get it leaned up to 240, you will have adequate power to have fun. Run it at this temp for about 4 or 5 tanks, then start leaning it up to 250 to 270 (do not go above 270). By the time you get to 270 you're broke in and it's putting out max power (without mods). Be sure to check the temps often during tanks. The old savage tanks had a bad habbit of leaning out at 1/2 tank, don't know about the new tanks. This is the proceedure I use, and it works for me. Other folks do it a bit different, but just about everyone will say to get a temp gun and follow the temp guidelines for break-in. Get it too hot too early, and you'll cook your engine.

As to your last question, it shouldn't have harmed your engine if you ran it for a short time (less than a full tank), just keep in mind the total ammount of gas that's been through it.

Hope that helped,
Whitt...

hey thanks man..
well yeah..its cold...and dark..but i richened it up and ran it for another tank (GEEZE IT TAKES FOREVER) and i plan to do another 2 tommrrow before i start to lean it out....i love the savage its soo cool

I had my Savage ready to rock by the fifth tank, but still took an extra tank to give it the full attention. The best thing you can do for your engine besides giving it good fuel is properly breaking it in. A poorly broken in engine will die much more quickly than one that has not been given the right attention.
