So I went out and bought myself a brand new Revo 3.3 (5309 with reverse). I had a couple of nitros 12 years ago and wanted to start the hobby again..

I have both read the manual and watched the DVD for a coupple of days and then today the weather turned out good and I went for the break in.

First 4 tanks went by the book. The last break in Tank nr 5, it is the tank that a 5 second run is made. First 3 secs to full throttle and thn keeping WOT for 2 more seconds. The problem was that the Revo didn´t shift into 2nd...

I tried to lean the hsn but it didn´t shift. I leand it till I no wanted to lean any more beause it was on the limit tune. So I richen a bit more.

So any suggestions would be nice on what to do..

I also have a little problem with the idle that does fluctuate up and down a bit... I have richened the lsn a bit and I am by the book on the pinch test and also it has a good start without bogging....

Check to make sure that your slipper clutch isn't too loose. If it is, it can cause it to not shift because it may be spinning more without transferring the power to the drive train. Next, look in your owners manual about shift point adjustments. There's a small opening on the top of the center gear box that has an attached rubber plug in it. Flip back the plug and get the right sized hex wrench out, can't remember which one it is (Sorry) and when you line up the gears correctly you'll see the screw that needs to be adjusted. I believe to the left will make it shift later and to the right will make it shift earlier. Small adjustments then test to see if you've got it. It's actually pretty simple once you've gone through it. Hope this helps...

Tanks for the info.

I actually got it to shift today. It was a combination of both tightening the clutch and setting the shift point earlier. It actually went really good. I have only driven it on tarmac yet so the shift to 2nd is at very high speed...

Do You usually change the shift point when running on different surfaces. I can imagine that on gravel I maybe have to loosen the cluch a bit to reduce wheelspin and set the shift to later, because of just the more wheel spin there will be??

Any thumb rule for this? Or du You just tune it and then run as it is on different surfaces?

Also it got pretty hot after doing several high speed runs on tarmac... at one point 295 F. I had earlier tuned it as instrucion to that point of where not getting any more performance improvments and then richen 1/8 turn. When it started to get hot today I keept on richening it to about 1/2 turn more for the last runs and still it got up to 290F... Should I keep richening it till it gets down to under 270?

The pinch test on lsn is spot on 3 secs then revving up and dies at 4 secs.

You can't always bring down the temp by richening the HSN and giving up WOT performance.
You're still running a new engine, and you'll need to keep your LSN a little richer than you have it now. That should bring your temps down, and still allow you to tweak it with the HSN.

hey hedg hog. glad that the slipper/tranny adjustment combo worked for you. as for the temps, i agree with rolex. pretty much whatever he says is law. he's the man at all of this stuff.

as for the shift point and slipper clutch adjustments for different surfaces as you can see it's pretty simple to make these adjustments quickly when needed. i usually run the truck before making any adjustments. see how it's working for you and your driving style, then if needed, a tweak here and there and you're off again. for the slipper and tranny adjustments all you need is a pair of needle nose pliers and two hex wrenches. i usually take that type of stuff with me where ever i run just to be sure if an adjustment is needed, i'm good to go. good luck with your new revo. have a great time with it!

Revo 2nd gear

I had similar issue with second gear and LHS helped show me how to adjust my slipper clutch. I did same thing and leaned it out way to far and about melted the glow plug thinking it was the engine giving no power. Not the case just the slipper clutch needing tightened. Set your high needle back to factory setting by rotating clockwise to close. Back out 4 complete turns. Don't want it to lean or you risk the chance of burnng up the motor. Better to error rich than to lean. Hope this helps.
