I was noticing yesterday while I was finishing breaking in my new engine on my T-Maxx that when I applied the brakes fully the front diff spider gears slipped and were grinding. I didn't notice any adverse reaction to these few times of doing this, but is there any way to stop this before something does go wrong?

Oh yeah, I like the brakes to stop my T-Maxx, thanks to the BMW incident, so adjusting the brakes to nopt stop it quite as fast would not be my first choice.
 
my only guess would be that u might have stripped out the front diff gears. i would go and take it out and look at it. make sure nothing is wrong before u run it again and mess it up even more.

Anyone. I just thought about it right now, the sound reminds me of a cordless drill when it tightens a screw and the screw goes all the way tight. The sound produced by my front diff seems similar to the sound of the drill when the screw bottoms out.
 
.........interesting. i have never had any problems with my diffes yet (suprisenly) but i dont know what to say about this. i would think that it would be the gears but u said that it wasn't. do u have CVD's?

Yes. The brakes were set for a full and rapid stop but I adjusted them but this has not stopped the noise. I opened the front diff and everything looked fine. I also changed the grease in the diff but it still does not solve the problem. It's almost like the diff is too loose internally.
 
EP, you may be right on the looseness. I had to pull the diffs apart in all my Ts and shim the gears, there was way too much play and you could visibly see the wear pattern on the outer edges of the gears , where you could tell they were not seating the way they should. I will get you the part # for the shims.
 
I copuld not specifically tell they were not seating as they were supposed to it was just a theory. Please link me to thew shims when you get a chance but it'll probably be this evening before I can think about ordering them or tomorrow morning. I'm about to leave to meet Sky and Error for our little bash session.
 
Hopefully not. Well actually I hope I destroy one of them so I can have something to rebuild again. Rebuilding is so much fun!!!
 
Diff gears should be shimmed just like you need to fit the mesh on the clutch bell and spur gears, otherwise they may be too loose and skip teeth when excessive force is applied. This caused a relatives Duratrax truck to eat both differentials and it ended up a major repair job (for me to fix - he can't change a light bulb).
 
I know this may sound bad comming in this late, but what about grease? Do you have an ample amount of grease in your diff?
 
Brakes worked fine. It didn't do it at all on gravel but on asphalt it made the grinding sound. Yes, there was a ton of grease in the diff,
