I have been searching for a couple hours now over the forum for a break porblem like mine. I think it might bc that the linkage is messed up but I'm not too teribbly sure. I was bashing today and the breaks were working fine and then they start gettin worst and worst. Well i have checked the pads and they look fine. I tried to tighten but no avail. so I'm checking out the servo and stuff and when i pull the break it pulls the linkage back, but then the linkage doesn't want to go back to the normal place. I've looked at this page https://www.rcnitrotalk.com/100/savage-linkage-mod/ and i guess i could order all that but i was wondering if there was another way to fix it without spending any money right now. Thanks guys.
 
There are a couple things to check... I would check that the posts that hold the brake plates are properly tightened. Next, perhaps the little piston that pushes the plates together (from the trans-case) is still in place and not binding.

Those are the only things that I'm able to come up with... Hope that helps!
 
thanks heartbreak i appreciate the help. i don't think those were it although i made sure that those were working properly but when i put everything back together it seems to be working fine. I guess we'll have to see tom once i go bashing again.
 
I never had any luck with the single disk stockers. If you linkage isnt binding i would suggest you get the dual disk set-up. Much better and not as much fading which sounds like what was happening w/ your stockers
 
naw i have the dual disks on. i think the linkage just wasn't doing something right. can't be too sure tho bc i messed with so much stuff. lol. thanks tho. I appreciate all the help i can get
 
The only other possibility is the plastic "adjustment knob" at the servo end of the linkage is worn out, a weak battery, or a fried servo.
 
I was really feeling the servo horn when I was reading this at work today... what kind of linkage do you have setup on the savvy?
 
could be that a bit of oil from the exhaust got on your pads......mine used to do it on my savage sometimes due to the exhaust pointing down twords the ground till i turned it outwards a little.....
 
I'm takin the thing apart right now. so I'm going to check the pads again. and then the servo. we'll see i guess
 
i think its this nob right here circled in red on the picture, but i have no idea about how to fix it. It might not be this but everything else seems ok. Is this suppose to return to the off position after you let go of the brakes? bc it totally just stays.

Normally, the part you circled doesn't have any "spring" to it, unless each of your brake pads have springs between them. It should rotate freely. Maybe purchase another set of pads and put one on each brake pad surface (like how an 8th scale buggy is)...

I can't understand why HPI only went with one pad per disc. Doesn't make much sense.
 
ok i'll try and do that. dang it. have to order another part offline now bc the closest hobby store is 2 and half hours away.

dang it i think that the place where the top screw that holds the brakes down is stripped or something bc you can only screw it in so far then it just starts turning. do you think that means i have to replace my tranny box.
 
I would say so... Now's the time to upgrade to the X box. Easier maintenence, if you got the 3 speed add on.
 
so when you applied the brakes the pin through the brake calipers there would back out, is this what I am hearing?

So you talking about the 3 speed tranny like this one http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJJJ1&P=7 or a different case and everything. thanks for the help.

and to greenwing no the screw isn't backing out but it won't tighten up enough for the brakes to do anything worth while.

Nope, it's a different part number - I'd have to research it for you, but it's the X center trans case. It allows you easy access to the entire inner workings of the trans with just a few screws. It's next on the list for my savage.
