brake cleaner

I work as a auto mechanic and in the shop we use brake cleaner to clean everything.I was wondering if anybody had ever used it to clean off the metal parts on their t maxx?Ya know just on the motor and maybe on the chasis.I think it would work rather well and I was thinking of giving it a try unless some of the more expeirenced maxxers in here could tell me if it would be a bad idea or not.:bandit:

It works great on the metal, but be careful with the plastic, What I use occaisionaly is CRC QD Electronic Cleaner, very similar to brake cleaner but safe on plastic. Basicly, anything that evaporates fast is good.

Ya I new you couldn't use it on plastic because it makes it brittle. How expensive is the electronic cleaner?

Keep the Electronic clean and Brake cleaner FAR FAR FAR away from the mill. It has a tendency to build up inside the mill (from a good cleaning) and when you go to start it *POOF* your mill will be roached. I have already seen two at our LHS that were torched this way. Believe it or not, OS replaced one of them (luck!).

I would stick to the denatured alcohol. Its cheap if you buy it by the gallon and works very well. There is not substitute for a well rounded set of brushes and some elbow grease

I don't know much about the brake cleaner but the type Elec cleaner that I mentioned evaporates in seconds with absolutly no residue, it has to because we use it on non ignition proof pump motors. Thus it cannot build up, down side is that it is very expensive. Denatured alcohol is by far the best cleaner for the money. And like Chris said, a little elbow grease goes along way

Depending on the type of plastic, the results vary. Some plastics can take brake cleaner and ask for more while other will melt completely.
