I bowl in a local league, started league bowl this year for the first time. I'm in a high average league but I'm a low handicap due to many things. I used to bowl a 13lb ball straight at the 1/2 pocket (left and right handed), it was a plastic ball too. I would usually bowl 160-190 if I closed every frame and strung a few strikes together. I swapped to a fingertip ball, 15lb, with grip inserts. It made my game go to crap, but I'm slowly coming together. I love grabbing a few beers, get a little buzz, and make pins fly. We bowl for fun, but we do try to compete. My team usually gets 2nd or 3rd every year. Watched a guy blow a 300 game in the 10th frame 2 weeks ago, I think the pressure got to him, we were all just watching to see if he pulled it off. I think someone even said buy that guy a beer and someone did, hell of a payoff for a good night of bowling.
I have subbed for friends in another league. It was more laid back, friday night league. I bowled a 169, 145 and 144 series. In my league the guy I am filling shoes for though bowls 230 sanctioned average, and it shows. He takes it very serious, and filled when one of the other guys was out. My team averages 190-220, last week my USBC sanction average was 109, high game is 150, high series is just over 400. I just got my USBC patch for a 140 game. Sweet. Almost got a triple 115 series one night, so I guess I'm pretty consistent. My goal for end of year is to have my average around 150. I started out with an 85 average...I've made good progress and will probably get most improved average this year in our league.
Some of the guys in my league are going to Vegas for a tournament soon.
