I Bought a Savage SS Kit today. It will be my first time buying a kit. I have a few electric cars so i have a some experience in it. I owned a MRC Nitro Thunder King about 4 years ago. I thought that was the biggest piece of crap i had ever bought. Its sitting in a box in pieces. Just got fed up with it. Seemed everytime i took it out something else broke. and it was costing me an arm and a leg. I here nothing but good thing about this truck. So i Figured i would give Nitro another try. If anyone out there has any tips they could pass along i would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Eric

:smoke: Congrats on the new ride, hope you have much fun with it, I just got the Savage .25 RTR, since I am a newbie I didn't think I was ready to dive right in to a kit just yet, from the reviews I have read though the SS and .25 are both very tough trucks with alot of upgrades from the old Savage .21, as far as tips all I can say is take the time to break in the motor properly and if you aren't sure as to how to tune it ask for help. SkyMaxx & Error 401 can give some good advise in that area, but if it still seems abit confusing you can always go see your local hobby shop. Have fun and keep us posted with your building progress!

It's fairly easy to build it took me a 1.5 days to build mine because the diffs and transmission are built for you. *Just because somthing is built for you don't assume it is built correctly*. i would open up the prebuilt stuff just to check to make sure nothing appears loose. Probably nothing is wrong but you might as well check since it will be easier to do now than later. I would look at the pictures very closly because there is no text to clarify anything. Also take your time getting the tie rods to the correct length because you cannot adjust them later without taking them off and its just a pain. And if your box does not have a red "X" on the bottom you have to check the backplate screws. Look for a post on it if you want to know more about the back plate screws it has come up several times. I'm sure there is more stuff but those are the only things i had probs with.

I heard that maybe the backplate of the engine might need to be checked so that the screws are screwed in with locktite. Some 25 engines were okay but I heard some were loose. I know this was a big problem for the RTR but not so much with the SS kit versions. In any case, you might just want to double check it since everything is out anyway. I bought an SS kit and it wasn't tightened right.

The SS kit is really fun to put together. Majority of all the parts fight really well and the instructions are very clear and easy to understand. The transmission and differentials are already preassembled, so that's a big plus (at least for me).

If you're thinking about enabling your Savage to move reverse, NOW is the time to pick up that reverse module ($35) and pop it in. The Savage SS (and the RTR) is VERY durable and tough. I've crashed it really hard countless number of times and the truck just keeps on ticking and keeps going strong. Hard plastic, good handling for a truck, and it'll keep you happy on the speed side.

I think the only thing that you might want to watch out for is that make your measurements carefully and as precise as you can when it comes to the suspension alignment affected parts. I just eyeballed it and did whatever. And after I finished putting the truck together, my alignment was completely off and I had to use my setup alignment station to correct it. (it's a pain)

But other than that, good luck on building it...you'll have a lot of fun with the truck!

thanks for all the info, i plan on using a set of calipers for the tirod measurements. Atleast they tell you the lengths they are supposed to be

Thanks again,
Eric
