Sweet motor failure, we salute you!!

WOW! Is it just me or from the appearance of that engine, does it look rather abused? Look at the first pic, just above the exhaust, notice the cracked cooling fin. Also, as dirty as that poor engine is, I wouldnt be surprised if it overheated before dying. Either way though, great carnage! I personally would put that one in a case and display it somewhere, lol.

We're gonna' need some more info. I have no idea what would be causing the funny sound.

 I feel bad laughing, since I lost my bashin' buddy for a good few weeks while he convinces "the wife" why he needs to spend another hundred bucks.

... But still I can't help but giggle a little.

To give a little more info, this motor only had 3/4 a gallon of fuel through it. He purchased it (an S-Maxx) about 3 weeks ago. Shortly after breaking it in, about 7 or 8 tanks of fuel, we figued out the hard way that the head bolts were not tight. I'm pretty sure todays events are a direct result. The motor probably overheated real bad back when he first got it, stressed out the internals, and finally today after almost a gallon of gas, the rod finally had enough.

From what I can tell, the rod probably became weak, and simply split down the middle at the wrist pin. Then the two halves expanded to the point of taking out the piston skirt. You can actually see a mark on the side of the rod in photo #2 where it hit the piston skirt, on the top half of the rod.

same prob happened to my tmaxx. Got a new one, cranked it up, after 10 seconds of idle'n it blew again. First time it looked like that one. Second time it just split the big part of the "dog bone" so it is now my keychain\bottle opener.
