I got my new TomTom GPS today, and it includes a bluetooth connection for hands free phone calls.
My phone found the GPS, but my GPS can not find the phone.
What am I doing wrong?
I have a Samsung Magnet phone, and the GO2505 GPS. It's brand new top of the line, and I can't even find support on their site, other than the initial registration and download.

Sometimes you have to go to the GPS settings and put the bluetooth on discover mode. Thats what I had to do to mine.

maybe your bluetooth is set to ''invisible'' on your phone ..or something like that...i had that problem with my HTC phone when i bought a bluetooth antenna to link it to my PC ...had to go in my phone bluetooth options and set it to visible so that my PC would detect it

I can't find 'discover' or 'make visible' in the blue tooth menu of the phone. The phone found the GPS. To connect to the GPS I need to input 0000 as a passkey on the phone, but it still won't connect.
On the GPS I have Phone settings, then go to 'manage phones', then the next option is a yes or no to establish a bluetooth connection. It searches, then says, "No phones found".
It also says,"To connect to your phone make sure that Bluetooth on your phone is switched on and the phone is discoverable. Do you want to restart searching?"

Same thing, just another go-round.

Is there any option on your phone that would have it send a signal to be found?

when your in the bluetooth menu you might have to hit the options button to get to it

I did a little searching and everything that I found said that the phone had no file transfer capability. Therefor was not visible to other devices.

It works for the earpiece. Is that all it will do? That's a Motorola.

This is really gonna' suck if I have to buy yet another phone.

That's what the GPS has, bluetooth capability for hands free. That's one of the MAJOR reasons I upgraded to this one.
So, this means ONLY the headset and nothing else?

What if I deleted the earpiece. Do you think it might work with the GPS then?

I doubt it. It can't be paired with other phones either. Headsets don't need to discover their host phone so the Magnet is not discoverable at all.

After all the hours I spent last night, and all the internet research, this is exactly what I was afraid of.
Thanks for all your help, bigjay.

Any suggestions for an AT&T compatible phone?

Not really. I have a Sony Ericson walkman slider that I hate because of its odd layout, a Sony Ericson Z750a that has a bad usb port and a similar layout to the walkman. My HTC Tilt 2 would be a good phone but it runs windows and has a lot of problems with that.

I might should add that with the walkman, If you have an unlimited data plan for your phone, you can connect your laptop as well. That is the only reason I keep that phone around.

I have unlimited.
Just to avoid any other problems, I guess I'll go directly to an AT&T store and let them screw me in person. :\

Thanks again for all your help.

You might want to look at a smartphone with either iPhone OS or Android, Rolex. The Samsung captivate is a really good Android (it's AT&T's Samsung Galaxy) or an iPhone. They've got the 8GB iPhone 3GS for $49.

Done deal. I went to the AT&T store, brought the new GPS with me and the guy made sure I could pair it with another phone. The Samsung could not.
Came home with an LG touch screen. Love it.
