son got a new revo for christmas. we were into the third tank of fuel (breaking the motor in), when what appears the clutch shoes/pads broke apart???? go figure. please give me some insight...can it be fixed with motor/trans left in truck? looks like a clutch repair kit is about 8 bucks

You have to pull the engine. Buy a few extra springs. Check and see where the springs broke you might be able to bend the end and make it work. Also a nice hop up is an aluminum clutch. Integy makes a nice one. You pay alittle extra but it will grab harder.

+1 on the integy clutches. Their crappy metal has at least one good use, and that is their clutch shoes

not really sure how the pads broke so easily, considering we just "breaking in the motor"......also is there any site out there that will give me the proper disassembly on this rc

Yeah, that's pretty surprising that the shoes broke during smooth operation. I'm not familiar with that particular rig but if you can remove the engine from the engine mount you won't have to realign your CB/Spur mesh. If you can get to those four bolts that's what I would do.

Sounds like the clutch was not right from the factory,I'd see if the shop you bought it from will help you out(they SHOULD). The stock clutch will last for quite a lot of running if installed right.

Www.traxxas.com would probably be the best for a schematic for the rig. Products, nitro, Revo, downloads

Exploded views are what you're looking for on the downloads page

I totally agree with Racer. You might even take a chance on calling Traxxas and see if they'll help you out. Traxxas has really good customer service but I wouldn't guarantee whether they'll send you a free clutch or not. But you never know, they might have had a bad string of clutch shoes.

He's referring to the main clutch. This was started in another thread in which he metioned the condition of the three shoes.

It's just that I've seen Revo slippers with pads. Set too loose, it will overheat and give the same results as the CB.
He's new so we just need to make sure he has the right info.

Put the clutch shoes on the opposite way, so they drag. Traxxas puts them on so the leading edge kind of digs into the clutch bell. They last much longer if they're going the other way, like every other type of rc clutch. You should be able to run that same stock piece for a long time.

http://www.traxxas.com/pdfs/5309_explodedviews_transmission-2006.pdf None of my trucks were like this when I got 'em, but this is what I'm talking about. Blow up the pic a little to clearly see how they go.

wow, thats the first time I've ever heard anyone say anything good about Integy parts,
i keep a few extra put together clutch springs and clutches in my pit box, always wondered if the metal ones were worth it.

it is the slipper clutch on the trans. from what i'm told....after the second tank of fuel during break in you are supposed to retighten the slipper clutch.....guess i missed that set in that wonderfull book they give u in the box. and yes my local shop is out of replacement parts until thursday. i'm not really sure who is more dissappointed....my son who's truck it is or me??????

Ah HAH!!!
The SLIPPER...the magic slipper. :p:

Everyone seems to like Integy nitro clutches and inexpensive crawler brushed motors. Nothing else. Period.

hey rclip, stick with this hobby, once you learn the 10-12-14-16-18 things that can go wrong at any minute, and are prepared to deal with them with spare parts or knowledge( and it doesn't take long) you will be hooked, and this stuff is FUN!!!

Ahhh.. the slipper. I wish people would stop referring to it as a clutch. They are not nor are they designed to be used as one. Silly people always creating confusion for new guys.
