i had the same thing happen with my savage x, i stripped out the spur gear. i don't know if you're truck does this but when you take out you're engine and replace it you can adjust where your engine is along w/ the clutch bell just make sure you have the clutch bell and the spur lined up or else you'll strip the heck out of that thing.
it could also be a tranny problem, make sure those gears are okay
