Big bore pipe install question......

Just pulled the new Big Bore out of the package to take a look at what I need to do for installation, and I now have a question.

If i remove the stock pipe and coupler, I noticed that if the big bore is slipped OVER the stock header, I have plenty of room down by the receiver box to re-connect the hanger wire. My question is if this is OK to do (i.e. have the pipe attached onto the header). Obviously Ill need a new coupler to do this, but I'm just wondering if this is OK for the pipe.

If it is, its probably one of the easiest installs ever :)

You can use any coupler tubing you like providing its thick and heat resistant and can be ziptied tight.

DO NOT let the pipe and header touch!!! That would be a NIGHTMARE of radio glitches.... Cut the header a little if need be.
 
I've heard of it before, but how does the pipe and header touching cause radio glitches?
 
ANY metal to metal vibration can create ungodly amounts of RF, thus, the interference. The pipe and header being so large and connected directly to the vibration source is BAD BAD BAD if there is not spacing between the two. I like a 1/4 inch gap at minimum between the pipe and header.
 
Pipe is aluminum. Metal on metal = radio glitches.

Unfortunately, the point is moot. I'm forced to sell the Tmaxx to help pay for more important things :(

I'm sure Ill get one another day........it'll be a good toy for my son to play with someday ;)

After losing the first piston and sleeve after less than a gallon (Traxxas says it was defective), I've just determined that I'm not having fun like I should be. Too many "hmm, its 3 degrees cooler than yesterday, lets re-tune the engine" and not enough "fire it up, run it all over, refuel, repeat".

Perhaps nitro isnt for me. If I save up some more pennies I might look at a brushless Emaxx, but that will probably be a while.

I still have my old electric Hornet somewhere in my basement. But obviously thats no where near as fun as a running Tmaxx.

Oh well. Life will go on. I might even switch to the dark side and buy a Savage SS when (if) it ever comes out. Perhaps that will give me the start and go dependibility I'm looking for.

And if I dont sell the Tmaxx, Ill look into a replacement motor, but not right away.

Well, I could have lied and said my wife made me sell it.

Figured my little whining story might prevent someone who is "patience-challenged" like myself to avoid such a temperamental powerplant. Nothing against Traxxas, but my experiences with the engines have been less than stellar. Great customer service, but I'm just not having luck with the product.

You and many others unfortunately! The weird part is that there are as many good 2.5's as there are bad 2.5's out! WHICH SUCKS! When you want people to take an interest and make this hobby grow and some company has to put out 50/50 mills! That poop just bugs me!

Keep it, get a different mill when you can drop the cash (preferrably an O.S.) and be a HAPPY Nitro guy!
 
Id LOOOOVE to get an OS motor, but I havent heard of one that gives power comparable to the 2.5.

I guess its actually UNfortunate that my 2.5 was running well for a little bit, because now I have a taste for the power and would be disappointed in anything else!!!

Any ideas what OS engine would be closest to the 2.5 without doing MAJOR renovation of the truck? Thats the main reason for my thinking about another truck........if I dont get a Sirio or Fantom, there arent many other mills out there that will give 2.5-esque power without needing to do conversions (i.e. a 21).

Hy sorry to jack this thread but since you guys are on the subject. Will the .18 Sirio bolt up to the 1st gen T-maxx??? Would that be better than getting a .21?? thanks

Yes, it will bolt up to it. There are a few things you'll need to buy in addition since you're replacing it in a 1st gen Maxx (I did the same thing), but it runs like champ.
 
has anyone tried to take say the rod from a servo to hold down the sirio? you have the small clamps on either end to hold the pipe tight and it seems like it would be soft enough to bend...just a thought.
