How far has electric buggy's come in the last 15 years???? could they hang with the nitro's??? Assuming both were top of the line, would you assume both were equal in performance???? WHo would have the edge?

I'd have to say that electric fully rigged out would far surpass nitro. Modern brushless motors can turn well over 100k RPMs.

I have nitro, but electric has come a long way, and with the right setup, is better than nitro.

debatable.............thats all I'm saying,.........debatable.

Nitro = run time = Fun = more maintenance

Electric = Less Run Time = Less Fun = Less overall maintenance (No Engine or clutch)

Overall choice depends what your looking to get out of it.

As for me ? Nitro buggy all the way.

I disagree, i get 45 min run times per battery with my slash on a 3s 5000 mah lipo. And can drive that beast in any condition without worrying about hurting anything.

Not all of us Like or want to use lipo due to the cost.

What about the people who cannot afford to go lipo ?? (unlike me who can but won't pay out for it)

That is changing the terms of the initial question, nothing was said about the cost of the setup, it just states:
Assuming both were top of the line, would you assume both were equal in performance???? WHo would have the edge?

With this said, yes, brushless with lipo, (best motor, and batt) vs a tuned nitro (no discretion on price) the BL rig would be a stronger and more powerful rig.

Electric would win hands down, and if it were a question of staying with NiMh batteries then you could get the 5000mah NiMh cells and still get one hell of a long amount of run time specialy if they are matched packs....

I get near enough 45 minutes run time from my X-cellerator, i use 4600 mah packs. I find it way more fun than nitro, because you dont have to refill it every 10 minutes and you dont have to tune it. Also electric doesn't annoy the neighbours.

but that the whole fun,I love when my neighbors bang in the windows or when some random people that walk pass the street are thinking what is that...
and you don't have to refill it every 10 minutes,I get an 20 minutes run time on my Revo 2.5 with no problem...
brushless are great for racing but nitro would be better as you got more feeling and that smell of nitro burned in the mornings, hmm most wonderful thing on the planet :hehe:

I dont want to annoy the neighbours though.

I dont need to pay for fuel, i can use it late at night.

20 minutes isnt too bad, but i bet you get through fuel fast. Or atleast i would, I've only had my new car since last saturday and already I've run about 20 packs through it. If that was a nitro it would cost me a lot of money.

Now THAT i agree with, nitro gives you a buzz electric just can not give, the sight, sound and SMELL of an engine running. GREAAAAAT.

Pitty they kick out teer gas tho....

This is also WAAAAAY :OT:

If you want to run at night, then electric Is the answer, but c'mon, who wants to run in the dark ? its more dangerous and more easy to crash. Besides, nitro is cheaper than ya think over in the UK. £20 a gallon !

also you get to show off with nitro. the noise grabs a crowd.

But the performance is more important, anyway who wants to show something off that may sound good but hasnt got the performance?

whoa whoa whoa !!!!! easy guys calm down, i can see whats coming, this aint a free for all.

If you gotta go at it, take it to the "free for all thread" and deal with it there. this is NOT the place to be getting into this stuff.

what is a uh, brushless motor???? When i used to race a long time ago, all the motors have brushes. Now they don't have them?? How does it run?

electric seems to be cheeper too.

the brushless motors correct me if I'm wrong but the coils are on the rotor itself and the magnets are outside of the coils.
