Best rc plane for a noob

I'm looking forward to giving it a try! Fpv looks fun! After watching some vids, I feel ike I might need to be strapped into the chair I'm in! The video experience SEEMS like it might be intense at first! Lol!
I kind of like line of sight right now.
I'm horrible with orientation at distance. Since flying is all pretty new to me, I feel like this is good practice for a plane etc...

I'm POSITIVE that I'm doing this right because it FUN!!! 👍
If you can learn line of sight then it will be much easier when you fly fpv and it's always good to be able to land a quad if you loose video link, if you can see it with the goggles off that is. I agree if you're having fun you're doing it right!
I have nearly made myself sick strapping a camera to an rc car. I don't know why it doesn't feel right after flying a quad. Partly it's the feel of the controls, but I can't figure out why the video feels so weird to me in the car?

The thing I notice most about flying a drone vs fmdriving a car is that the drone has a "sway" to it. What I mean is that when you turn the orientaion along with the direction, the drone will sort of sway with that motion of the controls.
I wonder if you had a directional (steerable) camera mounted if that would help at all?
Its fun to watch gopro like footage from a track car!

Yeah, you might be right, it would be interesting to try that on a car.

If your vision doesn't match the control inputs it can mess with your head and if there is to much latency on the video it feels awful, but I don't know if it's just because I'm used to the feel of the drone radio when I have the goggles on and the rc car radio feels so different?

I started, and so far...ended with this: https://www.amainhobbies.com/hobbyz...ctric-airplane-w-safe-616mm-hbz44000/p1201679
Many of these smaller planes will have a max wind speed recommendation. They are serious. I got stuck in a line of trees, then, on the 2nd crash, I crunched the nose. I gave it away, to someone interested in fixing it. In addition to ignoring the 5mph wind limit, I also did not use a sim, prior. I strongly urge you not to make my mistakes, especially since your plane will be ~2x$ ;)

Well that's not a fun way to learn. :(

I have a nice Turbo Timber Umx bird from Horizon. It has the outrunner motor, 6 channels and my favorite bit it has flaps for short field take off and landing. Big foamy wheels easy to fly and it has its own carrying box. I have a few flights on mine. There is a bigger version for intermediate pilots. All fun.

I just picked this up and literally am in the process of joining a local RC airfield club...went out today and had my first few rounds with one of the seasoned trainers there and we flew my identical plane (my new plane has yet to have its maiden flight). It was great to be able to fly in full "advanced" settings out the gate with the knowledge he could take over at any moment. This plane was easy to fly, easy to pick up visually in the air and is basically a glider at 0% throttle once you get it in the air.

My biggest challenges thus far is direction orientation when the plane is flying towards me (got a great tip on that front today that helped a lot) and flicking the sticks too much.

Had a blast, can't wait to get up in the air again.

So long story short, I'm a noob to RC in general, but this plane is great for a novice and fun to fly.

Solid choice! Hope you enjoy flying as much as I do. Once you get past the learning curve, it's up to you how daring you want to be.

Learning to relax and not be twitchy on the sticks is indeed an important step. Remember, it takes the plane a second to catch up to your input, so if you give it to many inputs at once it will get squirrely. I think your already headed in the right direction. Don't let mishaps get you down, and there will be mishaps.

Happy flying! :)

Oops, I forgot to mention, when the birdy comes at you the controls seem opposite. Just tap the wing with the stick in the vector you wish to turn to. I love messing with my rudder and ailerons for that coming at you phase of flight.

Maiden flight today…along with a handful more after that. I got certified at the local club I just joined, great spot and close to the house. Already shopping for a second plane and my flight trainer at the club is into trails and crawling…the clubs has a bunch of walking trails and some decent rocks apparently, so taking my 1/10 TRX4 up there to run the trails in between flight, RC from all angles lol

Check out the new Decathalon, its bad to the bone, and reasonably priced. Horizon Hobby.

After a successful 1st flight, be careful, you will get addicted to buying more birds. LOL! My DX-6 holds 200 models. Yikes.

A TRI plane??? COOL!!! looks like Snoopy should be flying it tho!

Yeup, Der Fokker DR 1, You can get large sized ones with nitro radial engines, to that little indoor guy with micro servos and micro motors. I think there is a nice 28 inch wingspan tri plan thats electric thats balsa wood and Mono kote plastic skin. All nice looking birds. The Tri Plane is difficult to fly. I lightly damaged mine, so I repaired it and made it a display model.

This may not even be considered hobby grade, but something to consider and they are sub $200 bucks.

I had an RC plane like the below. Big perks for a beginner:
1. If you crash the motor is not on the front. (I crashed many times)
2. Extremely simple controls some models are 2, 3 or 4 channels.... I had a very simple 2 channel: Throttle pulls up. Off throttle it goes down. Steering left and right.

The bad is that with the limited throttle control on the 2 channel type the wind can take it away easily.

Good looking birdy, very high tech looking. I'm not sure but I think FPV is for a camera thats on the actual plane..
