These are pretty good and cheap, Also the receivers i believe are only $7-$12
Ckeck out some reviews look into FlySky to its the same thing just a diffrent name

Which style is most preffered the joystick style or the pistol grip

Pistol grip, I'm running an RC4WD XR4 radio and love the hell out of it, the range and the price!

Routinely it's pistol grip for cars, stick radios for planes and helis.

The TQ 2.4 is a great, easy to use radio. Depends on how much your willing to spend.

ok thanks for the suggestions. as far as this kit goes it says it need a radio and electronics. does that only mean radio and reciever? or is there anything else that i need to aware of. i plan on blue loctite majority of the screws and sealing the motor.

You will also need a steering and throttle servo.

You are gonna want a high torque servo for steering and I like having high torque for my throttle and brake also...
I just built the 4.6 X SS kit and this is what I used:
Servos X2

This is the radio I use

I like this radio because it is very light, "only holds 4 AA batteries." It also doesn't have an antenna sticking out of it that can be broken... I feel its a good deal for the price
for $115.00 it comes with the Tx, Rx and a 4 AA battery box with on/off switch for the truck. The servos above are great in a Savage, I like them more than HiTec...
