Ok, I'm mostly a truck guy, even with "real" cars. But lately I've wanted to get an on-road nitro touring car, maybe for competing in some races.
So whats one of the few that are good to get. Also please include the manufacture.

whats your price range? do you want a kit or a rtr car? tell us this and we can answer your question better.

skipper - this thread would be better in the onroad forum - and u would get more answers - but to help you, we really need to know the answers to the questions just asked by banshee and gilb. how much do u want to spend? RTR or kit? and 8th or 10th scale? Alas, u already mentioned u wanted to race, so that will help us recommend some good choices.

Well money with most people is an issue, but I'm 17 and have a decent job, so I can scavange a few hundred bucks (300-450).
Also I guess the scale dosnt really matter, I like the looks of the NTC3, dont know much about it, but maby some of you can help me out. Also does the NTC3 have alot of aftermarket parts and such. Thanks

Oh, and forgot to mention about a kit, I wouldnt mind a RTR but kits are cheaper to buy and build, and seem like fun to put together. Just tell me from your past expirience what you would get.

If u do a search there is alot info from past threads. Where in Jersey are u located?

Kit are actually more expensive. RTR is a total package. with a kit, you generally have to buy the radio and engine and that adds up pretty good. So if you're gonna get a rtr ntc3 it's about what $300 and the kit is 250 then radio is another 50-80 for the 2 channel non-computer, and then 100-200 for the engine depending on how good of an engine you get.

btw, was looking at ultimatehobbies.com and they sell a rtr ntc3 for $290...holy poop! That's a hella good deal....IMO

skipper - for a first nitro car that u plan on racing - nothing can really come close to the NTC3. It handles like a dream, is almost bullet proof, and has tons of aftermarket support. the RTR will set u back about 290.00 - and the kit with a good (not great) radio and engine will set u back about 475.00

Dont forget to add about 100.00 worth of misc stuff also. if u can afford the tab - get the kit version - u will be happoer in the long run, however the RTR version of the NTC3 is about the greatest RTR I've seen

just wanted to mention that if you decide to get a an ntc3 rtr, look into the associated factory refurbs. they are super cheap. i believe a refurbished ntc3 rtr straight from associated costs 239.99. http://www.teamassociated.com/misc/refurbs_home.htm

if you have the money however, i say go for the kit. you will probably want to put a 2 speed and maybe a new engine and all that good stuff in the rtr and when you think about it your gonna be spending alot more than if you went ahead and bought the kit.

If you want a good handling race car that can reach 60mph with a relitivly good setup, I would get the serpent 705. It is fast. lots of parts. Way better and higher end car than the TC3. If you don't want to spend as much on the race only kinda car like the 705, than get the TC3. The TC3 is awsome because it is a wicked parking lot car, but a good race car to.
The serpent is more of track only car.
just my .02

First off I want to thank you guys for all the help, I narrowed it down to 2 I would have to choose from, Either the NTC3, or the HPI RS4 3, they both seem like great cars, so maby someone can convince me which ones better.
Also, Team 17, I see you live in my old town, now I live about 15 min away in Metuchen, I'm sure you heard of it, but in Linden I lived on West Morris Ave. So you know of any good places in jersey to race or bash?

Thanks guys for all the help.

Go with the rs4 3. More parts carried on the shelves and I have beat every TC3 that has come against me.
Don't get me wrong, they are good cars, but in my opinion the 4 3 is better. I guess it all comes down to who can drive and tune better. There both excelent cars. Take the one that is easier to get parts and easier to tune when time is limited.
Peter
P.S. I have the RS4 3 type SS and it is fast and very reliable, just hard to tune the chassis due to the chassis setup ( the way the car was designed.)

oh skipper where do i begin - comparing the rs4 to a NTC3 is like comparing a ferrari to a buick.

the rs4 does not have adjustable turnbuckles, the NTC3 does.
the rs4 does not have threaded shocks, the NTC3 does.
the rs4 does not have full rubber bearings, the NTC3 does.
the rs4 does not have a clutch type 2 speed, the NTC3 does.
the rs4 does not have a low cg, the NTC3 does.
the rs4 does not have pivot ball suspension, the NTC3 does.
the list goes on and on.

oh and an added adendum......

The NTC3 holds more world titles than any other touring car, and its maker Team Associated holds more world titles than any other manufacturer.

The RS4 has never won a title, nor has it been entered in any major race. HPI has also never won a championship.

On the entry sheet for the snowbirds last week here in orlando. 224 cars entered. not one was an RS4, out of the 74 cars there that were in the Nitro class, 59 of them were ntc3's

Great, ill have to check out the ntc3 ar a local hobby shop, maby theyll let me test drive it, but sounds good. Thanks again

Mugen MTX-3 for racing.

A good second place car: NTC3

All I can say is H.A.R.M............................he didn't specify size right?

That good second place car won the Worlds last year and will probably do the same this year. I would say that's excellent performance out of a 2nd place car.

That was all in the past. Expect the MTX-3 to win this year!:winnar:
