I've been eating spur gears like water, and no matter what I do I can't find a solution.

Re-set the mesh several times, locked down the engine with LocTite (after checking the motor mount for damage). Made sure the slipper was set correctly.

At this point I decided to tear down the tranny. Nothing out of the ordinary (a little dirt inside for some reason, I cleaned that all out). However, if I spin the shaft the spur gear mounts to (the 2-speed shaft, I guess), I *think* I see a slight wobble towards the threaded end of the shaft.

Does anyone know a good way of determining if it really is bent? I hear its an odd issue to have, so I'm not sure myself.

Also, my clutch bell makes a little noise when spun.........it isnt binding and doesn't feel like it has any resistance, but I'm assuming the bearings are shot. Could that cause a loss of spur gears?

Thanks!!!

if it looks bent it probably is. take it and put it on a flat surface and then roll it and see what it does. if it is going up and down it is bent. either way i would go out and buy a new one. i think they are liek $5

Yeah, thats what I was figuring. I might just go "all out" and get a forward only conversion, which comes with a new shaft.

I'm bummed........I was supposed to have a nice "final bash of the year" but I only got 6 minutes run time before the spur gear wiped. And I hate puttin another one on without knowing what the cause is.

get the forward only. i just got it and man i love it, big difference. i had my maxx for about 4 years now and had my reverse in for about 2 days out of that 4 years. it pissed me off the second day i had it so i took the servo out and took a piece of wire and rigged it up.

wrong shaft. the forward only kit comes with an output shaft not the input shaft (2 speed shaft). :juggle:

Whoops!! Ill buy both of those pieces then :)

Incidentally, any other advice on wiping out spur gears? Like I said, I've checked and re-checked the usual suspects.

that bent shaft did it, 1 more thing, do u got a center skid plate? if not i would advise that u get one. it wont let ur chassis flex as much. also is ur tranny tightened down??

bryan

Well, the shaft isnt that bent, hence why I'm not even sure it is :) but there is definitely some wobble in it after I spin it by hand (I have to assume it gets exponentially worse under nitro-engine RPMs).

Dont have a skid plate yet, will probably order a full set of RPMs.

And the tranny was tight.........I actually got a bunch of the inserts, but could only get 4 in easily (each outermost corner). Those were loctited in, and the 4 in the middle of the tranny were tight and not stripped.

My clutch bell bearings sound a little noisy........have anythign to do with it?

-Chris

shouldnt have anything to do with the clutch bell because unless it is off the shaft it can only move back and fourth not side to side.
