I came accross a web site with a cool article on the Maximizer Bead Lock wheels ( http://www.ultimatetraxxas.com/review_beadlocks1.html ). Does anyone use these wheels and if so, ho do you like them. I saw they are made in aluminum (real exspensive) and a less exspensive composite (about $30 set of 2). They are also for the T-Maxx. Are the T-Maxx wheels a direct fit to the Savage or not? I have not had to buy any wheels or tires so I don't know. I do like the idea of NO GLUE.

LarryA,

Keep your eye on the TechInfo page. I've got a set of the X-75 bead lock rims from Maximizer that I'll be doing a review on.

Chris also has a set of bead lock rims that he may be doing a review on.

here's a stupid question, What are beadlock rims and how do they differ from regualr rims?

are they similar to captured tires and rims like on a rock crawler?

I found a picture that should eplain it...

nice illustration!!!!! That explains it all to me. They are just like captured rims that modified rock crawling trucks use! That is sweet.

Its probably worth it in the long run, considering you dont have to buy new rims everytime you want to run diffrent tires, and actually its pretty simple putting the tire on. Stomer Hobbies stocks those rims too if your looking for a cheaper price.

  Two Thumbs up!

Put it this way, if you ATTEMPT to rip the tires out by hand, you will rip the tire itself before you succeed (meaning you wont). They hold way better than glue and can be reused over and over. Also, they are quick to use.

Is any type of tire compatable with these rims or are you stuck to buying special tires?

Looks like more work than it's worth.

I can assure you I could install a set of tires on a set of beadlock rims faster then you could glue tires to your rims.

Plus as Chris pointed out, beadlock rims hold MUCH better then glue, and since there is no glue these rims could last much longer then your glued rims.

Are they heavy is my only worry? Is there a racing set?

As I have not weighted standard rims next to beadlock rims, I'm guessing there is a slight weight increase. I'd welcome you to check out their website here.

I can assure you since it's small and not mook proof it's faster my way of putting the tires on the rim then adding a what was meant to be light coat of glue, but ends up being liberal though some might say excessive. I have no doubt that's it's faster to remove than my way, if I only reused my rims or tires.

Am considering buying the Maimizer wheels in the black composite 5 hole design from Stormer, not bad at $20 a pair. I'd also like to mount a set of Duratrax Thunder Quake tires on them as in the article link of my original post. I'd like the aluminum but they are a bit out of my price range at this time. I figure it would still be about $100 for 4 tires/wheels/foams.

After trying to remove a set of stock t-maxx tires where I may have used a slightly excessive amount of glue this afternoon, I realized that maybe you guys are not full of it and maybe I need to join the new generation.

MaximizerProducts makes just an aluminum face for their rims too. The X75 series are wide off-sets as well if you are looking for more width (most of us do).

I was wrong, the site I found the wheels for $20 a pair at was http://www.rcboyz.com/ not Stormer, but they don't list the X75 faceplates or even the aluminum faceplates.

i am really thinking of getting some. about $40 for four... that is worth it for me..because i really dont know how to glue rims good so the tire is shot i throw it all away. so for about $10 more u get reusable rims ... i just hope my lhs has these ....i want them black with a dish style :hehe:
