Hi guys, kind of new to the elec side, I have a Savage Flux HP and currently run 30c 5100 mah batteries. Would it be possible to run a 60 or all the way up to a 90c 7100 mah battery without burning up my esc or motor? Any help would be greatly appreciated Thx Steve:\
 
The C rating refers to how easily a battery can give power, the higher the better. If you run a low C rated battery with a high powered ESC, both the battery and ESC will struggle. As long as you don't go over the voltage limits for your ESC and motor, you'll be fine.....unless you are gearing is wrong.

My gearing is stock, but how do you find your limits on voltage for your esc and motor?

I think I got it, the manual with my truck says i can use a 2s or 3s battery with this truck now a 2s is 7.4 volts and a 3s is 11.1 volts. So as long as I stay with a battery that is no larger than 11.1 volts, the C number can be as big as I want?? Thx for all the help
 
What truck, what esc, and what motor? SchrodeMode is pretty much dead on. The only thing I'll add is that the ESC will attempt to give whatever the motor asks for, the motor is the driving factor in all electric systems. Too much motor or gear, and not enough battery or ESC, and you'll let the magic smoke out of the battery or esc for sure. They put it in special at the factory, and it's a one time use item.

Fact, I haven't found a way to refill my VXL's smoke yet.

Just wondering what is the limit on battery size I can go with this truck. Can I run up to a 70-90c battery as long as I stay within 11.1 volts? The book says I can run a 2s or 3s batteries.

Hopefully some of the flux guys will chime in, as I don't own one. But from what I've read, all the bigger brushless trucks place a high demand on the packs from the weight of the truck and the fact the electronics are usually under high load all the time being bashed. So you want a battery with a higher C rating, 70-90 should be more than enough, I wouldn't go below 40c if it were me, and 40-50 would be fine I would think also.

Think of batteries like this; the mah rating is like the fuel tank, it's how long the battery will last (roughly, lots of factors go into it), and the C rating is like the size of the fuel line (i.e. how much juice can flow at one time on demand). You want a big enough tank, and a large enough fuel line that you don't starve the engine / esc, because unlike nitro rigs, these will only flame out once. That's my hillbilly laymans terms anyway. :D
 
You can go as high in the C-rating as you are willing to spend. After a certain point it's not going to benefit anything though and it's just a waste of money. It depends how many amps the motor draws. To figure out what the batteries can supply, divide the mah by 1000 and multiply by the c-rating.

Castle recommends 5000mah with 30C minimum for the Flux.
5000/1000 = 5
5x30 = 150 amps

The 2200kv draws up to 125 amps.

I run 3S 6000mah 25C Turnigy Nano-Tech batts with the stock motor. Batteries get warm, but never hot.

6000/1000 = 6
6x25 = 150 amps

A 7100mah battery at either 60c would be PLENTY!
7100/1000 = 7.1
7.1x60 = 426 amps!!!

The higher the mah, the lesser of a c-rating you can get away with basically.

You can run X2 3S lipos on the HP Flux. The equals 6s or 22.2 Volts. The higher the "C" rating on the battery the better as most have stated. You can run X2 2S or 3S batteries.... however.... on 6S the Flup is one heck of a handful
 
thanks for all the info guys, it really helped. this truck is a monster with 2s batteries. I can go across the yard at a good speed and blip the throttle and it will stand straight up? Awesome. Thx again
