So I was reading on another forum that you can remove wheels from tires by putting them in the oven. 350 for 15 minutes i think was the way they did it. Any one heard of doing this. Do you tires and wheels stay the same after doing so? I was thinking about doing it because id like to strip the flacky crome off my stock wheels on my 2.5 and paint or dye them black. Thanks alot!

I personally use denatured alcohol in a needle-less syringe. Just peel the bead back a little, and inject the alcohol, then keep peeling and injecting. It won't be long before the tire comes off.

But does that jack up anything. I want to reuse them both. I also heard of boiling them but that seems messy and hot.

Nail polish remover is the main ingredient in the solvent made for removing CA glue. The polish remover also has oils and fragrance added to it, and it's expensive for such a small bottle.
The exact same thing, in a pint container, is in the hardware store for about 4 bucks. Acetone. Pronounced ass uh tone.

I do it all the time. 400 for about 15 minutes, the tire pulls right off and the residue is crystalized and will pick right off with ease. The tire and wheel are fine. Just place the tire on an old cookie sheet (if you use a new one you wife or your mom may get a little miffed). Also it might stink a little but it's not bad.

Hah, yah, that's the stuff I meant; blonde moment.:hehe: Just work slowly with it, and the tire will be off the rim before you know it. And you won't have to worry about it eating the tire or the rim.

I've done it too, it does stink! but the tire comes right off. Make sure you use gloves cause its HOT

Cool I'm going to try this I think! I think black wheels look sharp so its worth a shot.

Oh, it will not remove the chrome. Use Easy Off oven cleaner for that but be careful when using it and not get in on yourself or in your eye's and sure to God to drink it!

Never use easyoff oven cleaner on plastic!

I have used it alot to remove annodizing on aluminum,if you let it set for more than a couple of minutes it starts eating the aluminum. You telling me it will eat metal but not plastic?

Yeah, proof is in the pudding. Coffee will eat aluminum over time too and won't do anything to plastic. Usually the wheels with the chrome on them are more of a nylon.

Ya I havent done it yet. I'm waiting till my mom isnt hear so she dosent see what I'm about to put in the oven lol.
