Hey everyone. I have had my tmaxx 2.5 sitting in my basement for about a year. I got it running like last week and I was surprised the engine was still in the good shape it used to be in. It took a few adjustments to get it to fire up but it runs. I have a problem though, it's horrible at stopping. I don't know if my brake is bad or just needs to be adjusted but it's annoying to have to need like 15 feet to stop. What should I do? It's the stock disk brake. I got the truck about 2 or 3 years ago. Should I go to the hobby store and buy a carbon fiber brake or is there a way to adjust it?
 
Well, first check your linkage to make sure it grabbing the brake lever hard enough...it thats okay i'd check the adjustment screws on either side of the pads..they may be too loose. I can't really see anything else being wrong. If theres a disc and pads there it should stop well enough.
 
The linkage looked fine but when I looked at the Pads they did look a little loose. I pulled the transmission out and tighteted them till the disk was snug in the pads, put the tranny back, and did the "I can't drive my truck brake test" which is where I push my truck and hit the brake on the controller. It seemed to stop a lot better. I'm gonna take it out and fire it up tomorrow. Wish I could do it now but it's 1:30 am lol. I'll tell you how it goes tomorrow
 
well i took my truck out today and the brake was slightly better but not good enough. i still need a lot of room to stop. i adjusted my lingage and that didnt help much. maybe i should tighten up the pads more? how much should i have to tighten it? its pretty snug in the pads....
 
Look at your brake disc if the edge looks like it has been filed down you need a new disc. I had the same problem. I put a new stock disc in, now my truck will do a front flip if I want it to. after adding the new disc, adjust the linkage: if your finger is not on the trigger the brake linkage should be really close to grabbing the small tubing by the brake lever, on the trottle side spring should not be compressed much. make sure you can apply full brake without fully compressing this spring. hope this helps.

it looks like i need a new disk then. i remember when i could make my truck do a front flip on command. it was fun lol. thats how my linkage is now. it wasn't like that before. i really need money....
 
I usually give the pads and the disc a good cleaning with soap. After that, give them a little sanding until you see some swirl marks and you'll be good to go.

You can also just loosen the pads with a long Ball Hex, spray it down with some cleaner, and run a small thin file in between the disc and the pads. It would take you less than 15 min if do this.
