Back Plate

Hi

I took my back plate off to give everything a good clean and oil, put back on with cut outs in the right place. Took my car out today, after 3 mins running at temp, the car stopped. Went to start it, and the starter box couldn't turn the engine over, i grabbed the flywheel with a pair of plyers but couldn't budge it. Took the engine out, could see nothing wrong. Loosened the bolts on the back plate, flywheel now spins freely however, there is no way i could leave the backplate bolts that loose they would fall out!! I notice that where the piston is connected to the crankshaft, the crankshaft piston holder is not flush with the conrod. As far as i can see this is causing the rubbing against the back plate, and is now stoping the backplate from sitting flush.

My engine is a Picco P7r, any ideas what may have caused this, best way to repair it, or have it cattle trucked my engine??

Was there an o-ring or gasket on the plate when you took it off?

You have the align the point were the con rod and crank shaft meet. Its has to be in the little groove molded into the back plate. There should be an aroow.

There is an oring which is in the correct space, no gasket. I have tried to align, no arrow. The back plate has bevels at the top, which are in the correct place, i have tried the conrod in various positions but the backplate hits it? Bugger!

Did you take the piston out and install it the wrong way?

no piston wasn't taken out, i just undone the backplate for a bit of routine maintenance - i should listen to my brother if it aint broke, don't fix it!!
