I stopped in at the studio about a week ago to drop off some of my equipment, since I ran my PA for a band the night before. I bumped in to a guy who was in a working band who was interested in getting a sound man for is band so I gave him a card, and proceeded to show him my stuff. He looked over and noticed my guitar and bass amps and asked me if I played. When I told him yes, his eyes lit up like a christmas tree and he wanted me to play bass for another project he was trying to start up. So I met up with him again to pick up a cd of stuff that he and another guy were working on.. but after all that, the other guy fell out. I then told the kid that I know of a few people who might be up for it, so I made some phone calls last night. Within two hours I found a guitar player, a bassist/guitar player, and a singer. Since when does this happen so quickly?! Anyhow, in the next few days I should know when our first meet will happen. We will see how it goes... as far as I can see, everyone is on the same page. We will learn covers, and lots of them. Once we have about one hour and a half worth of material, then we will try some originals. No one wants to hear originals all night long anyway.. and thats X2 if they suck. I'm pretty excited about this happening though

Sweet, congrats!

gigs never get old... as long as you're having fun.

its a matter of finding people who you enjoy working with

yeah with the exception of the front man/woman because you shouldn't crush their ego's. lol and they'll perform poorly. It was a Past experience. That could be wrong to some but in my past... you had to let their ego fly. Crush it, and watch what happens in the next performance. :\

I avoid anyone with an ego. I don't think that anyone in a band should feel as though the are the star of a band. It's true that the frontman is normally the one who people focus on, but I dont think that any kind of arrogance on their part should be acceptable, nor should it be from anyone else in a band. I've seen many people like that come and go, and they usually end up down the same path that leads to nowhere. But, thats just my thoughts on it.

That's awesome. I miss playing live. It's been probably 15 years since I've been on a stage. Kinda hard to explain to people who've never done it. Starts as the scariest thing ever. And ends as the greatest rush you might ever feel. Hell, if I wasn't past 40 I might consider knocking the rust of these hands and start piecing something together. Good luck man. I hope it all gels for you and turns into something incredibly fun.

Thanks, me too. I think this is going to be my last attempt at it though. For all the work that goes into it, by the time it goes somewhere it seems to end too quickly sometimes. I've always made more money spinning records anyway.. lol

So very true. I always just reminded myself that I was doing it for the rush. Definitely not much money in local club gigs. It's just pretty freaking cool when you start having people go out of their way to hit one of your shows. It got pretty cool seeing familiar faces with each new show.

Oh without a doubt on that one. Unfortunately the best band I was in so far didn't last long enough because of a guy who was brought in by the drummer without anyone Else's input. The guy took all of the fun out of it and had a serious case of cranial rectitus.
