I purchased a used RC8 off a guy and it has a .28 axial spec 1S installed..I've tried all day to get the high end right and still have a top end issue...When the motor peaks out (We run on a large outdoors oval) it starts cutting out..I'm afraid to lean it out any more..Seems like it starts losing power if i lean it more so that tells me I'm right on the edge of being tooooo lean...So someone who owns one of these rascals might be able to shed some light on this..Also the motor didn't come with the carb venturi inserts if that makes a difference...Thanks for the help!!

I have one in my LST, it only acts like that when it runs out of gear. Funny thing is it doesn't sound like it is all that high in the RPM, but I am so used to .12 and .15 small blocks that a big block sounds lower in the rpm range. Have you messed with the gearing at all, once I adjusted the shift point on my LST that problem went away as it would use all of 1st gear and lose power before it would shift.

Right now I've got a 16T clutch bell.....probably too small for the size of track we run on..I just ordered a 18T and a 19T....We;ll see how it does after the change...Thanks for the idea!!

If it is cutting out you need to richen it up, start with the hsn then go with the lsn it will solve your problem....I have the .32 and went through the same thing and the motor is stupid fast now! Good luck...you have a great motor.

Take the Axial .28 off the RC8. They blow Monkeys. The only way you will get the Axial to perform is to install good bearings in it and have an engine modifier alter the timing. Not worth it. pick up a Novarossi 3 port .21 or a Picco 3 port .21 and a Dynamite 086 pipe set. It will be plenty of power, more than any Axial makes and use less fuel doing so. Not to mention less headaches.

Not to take the post off topic, my Axial Spec 1 is a great engine, and shoves my LST around pretty damn good. Just so you know, as well, comparing a 120$ Axial Spec 1 engine to a 200-400$ Picco/Nova Rossi is like comparing a Ford Focus to a WRX, not really a fair comparison. I am all for people having their opinions, but I can tell you from my experiance with my Axial it has been the best 120$ engine I have ever used, it just needs a good pipe. And again I will not dispute that the Axial Spec 1 is a "sport" low budget big block, and I think most people forget this. Just my 2 cents.

Well I race every weekend and have been through at least 100 motors and Axial is more reliable out of the box than any Picco. The first thing I do when I purchase a Picco is seal the carb up everywhere before it the Idle races itselph to death, not to mention the rear berrings are JUNK, much worse than the Axial....I put a .32 on my Ofna the other day and ripped the knobbies off the front right tire and the motor was running at 170 degrees, That does not blow monkeys, and the Picco never ran like that....keep spendin that big money!:p: Front berrings are blown usually because of breaking the motor in with your lsn too rich.
