The Hotbodies Lightning RR & Pro version comes with the same diff gears. Sadly, these gears weak. The stock engine has no problems with the diff because it's not very strong. A fellow at our track put a NR P5 in his Lightning Pro and has managed to blow the front and center diff gears. He replaced them with the Hotbodies diff gears and they blew again. Hotbodies has rescently released an upgraded set of gears. They are even a different color. You can also get the Kyosho Inerfno MP 7.5 diff gears as they are a direct fit.

My Hyper 8-Port Race must be worth it's mustard because I blew my rear diff last night durring the intermission before the main.

To wrap this up, the diff gears do not cost that much money (less than $20 per diff). If you want to put a bigger engine in this buggy, get the better gears before the stock ones become a problem.

I am running a C4 in my PRO and have not had any problems. I recently took the diffs apart to put diff lube in them, they looked fine.

i was sitting pretty too (no diff problems) until yesterday. are you tuned for bottom end or top speed? I think if I wasn't going for all that bottom end, i wouldn't have a problem.

Are the diffs on the Lightning grease filled or silicone sealed diffs?

if they are the sealed diffs first thing I would do when dropping in a monster engine is check all the diffs to see if the are lubed properly and maybe go up 1000 in wt in the silicone.

When I tore mine apart to put lube in, the diffs had grease and are sealed.

I put 5,000 in the front, 7,000 center, 1,000 rear. Seems to perform better than stock. I still have too much understeer going into corners, but I think it is due to my driving than anything else. I am switching to dual rate springs, we'll see how much of a difference that makes. I wish I could find D/R springs for the front as well.

I didn't do anything with my diff. maybe that's why mine got roasted. last night, i found out via an australian magazine that the light weight diff gears in the sacker pro (lightning pro) are designed to reduce weight in the spinning parts and increase performance. i think ming yang just made them too light. as i mentioned, hot bodies now offers harder gears (a different color from the previously released set)

I’m going to tune my all my diffs when I replace my gears. the other guy at the track running the lightning pro is also running 5k, 7k and 1k (front rear back).

humboldt, you're running 3k, 7k, 1k??

Understeer AKA tight, right? Is the rear-end loose?

If your suspension is setup to your liking, Let's see if we can cure that.

For tight steering, maybe you could try a lower weight in the front, but if the rear-end is loose in turns, try a heavier weight up front. I have not heard of anyone running anything different than 1000 in the rear and most of the tuning is done in the front diff.

Someone please correct me if i'm wrong.

GS had a bunch of diff problems when the Storm came out. People were blowing diffs like mad for the same reason. They fixed it promptley and I am sure Ming Yang will to. The first thing I would have done before I even ran it was tare apart the diffs and take the grease out and put silicone diff oil in them, but thats just me.

nope sounds right to me Darth:thumbup:

if smokey lightens up the diff oil in the front, he'll go from 5/7/1 to 3/7/1. maybe that's what I'll go with.

what does heavery weight in the center diff do? I've heard of people puttin 10k in there.

I welcomed him back how is that not nice? I think you people try to read to much stuff into my posts.

I had the rear diff in my lightning apart. it does look grey and yucky but looks like oil not grease. it wasn't filled by any means. It seemed like half full.

Welcome back CRSMP5. Pick up those MP 7.5 diff gears if you get a chance. it's a $22 hop up that will save you downtime later.
