How much would you charge to assemble a car or truck kit for someone?

If you are paying for someone to pay for it to be done then the kit is not the route for you. My brother tried doing this for his NTC3 and ended up being me assembling it. The kit requires patience and manual dexterity as well as goo understanding RC's. BUT some may feel upto the challenge so why not do it yourself? A LHS was charging 250 bux to do it not including breaking in. for an extra 60 bux. Think its worth it?

Holy poop! That's crazy! Seriously, that's just flippin reduculous

It was their price and its a known hobby shop. Everyone there are pretty much A$$es so I am not surprised. I would rather build myself. If I were going to charge someone to just build I would charge just a 100 bux so long as they paid for all the extras. the 100 bux would be for my time and labor. Lol

I think 100 is fair. I mean, I've never built a kit before but I know I've spent a lot of hours on my project truck. time is money but 250 is way too much money

wow even 100, i enjoy doing it. i dont know if id even charge if i knew the person.

Me neither but for stranger HELL YEAH!!

250 + 60 for break-in. @ my LHS it is free or 5$ (depends on what kit) if u buy the kit from them an if u bought the engine from them there is alwasy free tune-ups.

sorry that I can't beleive as both my LHS charge no matter what.

if you ready and your kit didnt come wiht crappy instructions you can build a kit with patience. you could come hoime from work one day and do maybe the first page or 2 of your kit instruction they are hobbies to be done for fun. i personally think that building it yourself is better for when you break it so you know what could have messed up and how to take it apart and fix it. $250!! you might as well just buy the rtr and hop it up.

jon2, its a small HS. He doesn't even charge me or other people tax on what they buy

I'm am the one doing the assembling for my friend who bought the kit and couldn't figure out what he was doing once he dumped all the parts out on the table.

Building ANYTHING is one of my greatest pleasures. When it's done, you know it's right because YOU did it. When something needs to be replaced, you already know how to fix it. It's the best education you can get with a nitro car.
Dumping out the parts will also cause you to dump out your brain cells trying to figure out what's where.
One bag at a time, and the manual in front of you. Step 1, step 2, step 3, till it's ready to run.
It's sometimes confusing, but then you see that this piece goes in that thing, and it starts to make sense. The less parts you have left, the easier it gets.
Check out RatzoRC's thread on the Kanai build. What a beauty. step by step photos to show how enjoyable it was.

Why would you want someone to assemble the kit. Then when it breaks you dont knoe how to fix it.

to me its just like building a pro level model car. i guess you just hage to have the ache in the back of your head to build one. theres a small breed of model bulders its pretty much the same thing but this time if you screw somehting up then you screw the car up. its always good to leave the stuff here it came from. i have experience model building with all the parts all over the table. if you build the kit for your friend then have him sit there and show him what to do so he dosent have you fixing his new shock towers or turnbuckles every time it breaks.

To me, building the kits is just as fun as running them. Someone would have to pay me for them to build it.

I bring most of my brand new motors to my LHS to get broken in, (I just want it to be done 100% right, and not take ANY chances) and they charge me $30 and thats fuel and everything. I think its a good price and so far they have done an awesome job. I've had them do 3 engines so far.

IMO if a person doesn't want to spend the time to do the kit themselves they should have just boughten the RTR kit from the get go. If they dont have the knowledge of putting a kit together, they dont need the extra "umph" yet anyway.

i like this idea. take some time every other night or so during a week. and have your friend come over to your place (cause you'll have the tools) and teach him how to build it. this way your not the designated mechanic, and he can learn something, which is most likely why he bought a kit to begin with.
