Is this a good transmission in the revo ?

if your talking about the stock trans that comes with it ....i havent really had any problems with it ... and i ride it pretty hard ..only prob i had was the reverse shifting rod that comes out the trans ...was getting stuck and wouldnt always shift ...but i took it apart and cleaned it ...havent had problems since

Thanks for the info. I just order the revo with reverse and that was the only thing that was bothering me.

no prob ;) ....some people like the reverse ...some dont .... but i wouldnt go without it ..i love having it ..and if it does brake , i already have a spare tranny that i got for 20$ on ebay ..and i dont mind fixing things when they brake ..its all part of the hobby ;)

Do you know if it fits in the older revo,s with the 3.3 / 5308 mod

I'm pretty sure it would fit on the 5308..they are basicaly the same truck ...but you will have to put the optidrive in to prevent shifting in reverse while you drive ...you can get those pretty cheap on ebay to ;)

I would not recommend the reverse. It makes the transmission much weaker and the Opti-drive is junk that does not work most of the time. I blew reverse out of my Revo after driving it less than a week.

i have been driving mine pretty hard for 6 months now ...and nothing broke in the drivetrain .....i think the reason most guys have problems , is because they dont check things before they run them ..

i took my tranny apart first few weeks i had the truck ..and noticed the screw holding the gear on the input shaft was loose , making the gear loose on the shaft and wobbly ....

if people think that just because its new , its perfect ...well , they are wrong ....you should always take things apart and check every screw when you take it out of the box..thats what i did ..and i dont regret it ..the things i broke , was due to hard impacts :D

and even if the optidrive is junk ...mine works fine ..its been in water and snow , never had a glitch ......and they are cheap to replace ..so no fuss there

I actually did check and tighten everything. I stopped against a fence and shifted to reverse and got a grinding sound. I opened the tranny case and found the reverse gear in pieces. Get rid of reverse! You'll be doing yourself a favor.

Thanks for the info after my son breaks it in and puts a day on it I'll open up the tranny and check things out. :)

Reverse is well known for being a weak point in Traxxas vehicles. All the opti drive does is prevent shifting into reverse while the vehicle is moving forward. When it works. I think this is the first post I've read regarding the opti drive where it actually works right. Reverse + opti = broken tranny.
