are failsafes worth the money?

for all revo owners: fail safes are stock and don't go out and buy a part you already have.

It think that is a bit too broad a statement Mach1, while is does appear the 3.3 has one, the 2.5 may or may not, hard to say without looking at the manual or getting word from Traxxas directly in some other way.

At the end of the day I think it is personal preference, some people like $1M of life insurance while some think $500k is more than enough. Armed with the information that the 3.3 at least has some level of failsafe allows each to make their own (informed) decision...I won't be adding one unless I can find some new information as to why the built in one is "risky".

Cheers

In my case, I pretty much had to buy a fail safe since my Opti-Drive is in a parts bag....It was removed when I installed the center diff...I see your point as far as Racing goes HW...However, for me, I will mostly be bashing and running flatland when I feel the need for speed...I would want a bit more breaking power than 25%...at least there is something there for stock users...

Didn't mean to cause a stir. I am definitely an advocate for some sort of fail-safe. My 2.5 had the "Ofna" fail-safe installed before it was ever started. My 3.3 (Merry Christmas to me!) is waiting for a good warm day to be broken in properly so I haven't tested the built-in fail-safe yet, but did confirm, through a well known moderator on the Traxxas forum, that the 3.3 comes standard with one. Of course I will confirm that it is functioning properly before depending on it. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, most people don't leave their Revos stock and from everything I've read, the first thing to go is the Opti-drive. Just stay home one night instead of chasing Hooters girls around the bar and you've paid for the failsafe that will help keep you out of trouble with a radio-out or low battery situation.

I installed a Venom smart temp failsafe. It limits the trottle if it over heats, it hits the brakes when the car battery's go dead or you lose radio signal. The more you protect the more you can save.$$$$$$
