Ok I don’t use AOL myself I have cable high speed, but the girlfriends mom uses it and was having trouble signing on. This has been going on for some weeks now, so as the good guy I offer to take a look. It kept coming up as access numbers busy, I checked the modem and ran all the AOL systems programs and everything kept saying it was ok. But how could all there numbers be busy for weeks. So I broke down and called customer support, it was all down hill after that. After waiting for ever to get threw to someone I end up talking to India. The person could hardly speak english and you could hear the pages of the manual flipping in the back ground. Well after getting run in a circle 4 different ways I hung up to see if it helped. No luck same problem so call again go threw the same crap and get told 2 of the 3 numbers in her area are not working (that’s bull crap). They run me around the same circle a few more times, I hang up again and try it and still wont work. So I try to get in touch with the American AOL and no luck. I spent so much time in India today that I still smell curry. The last time I check AOL stood for America Online, not India online. So needless to say I was getting pissed and told her mom to dump AOL and go with another company. Why deal with a company that can’t keep there access lines working and has horrible support, and I like to support American business when ever I can. You now call support and talk to someone in the same country not half way around the world.

I have no problem with India, I have a problem with an American company pulling there after hours support out off the country to save money and yet charge the American public full bore for the service.

You my friend are not alone. I think just about or near everyone new to the internet starts out with AOL, good thing more companys are making it easier like msn and the likes... AOL just plain bites.. I dropped it in 1996 for 24k modem dialup lol..AOL had 33.6 with USR X2 support whooo.. needless to say 24.4k service was way better than AOL's faster lines lol...

When I was really and I mean really new, they had my put my restore disk in, and call them back. Well I did it, I didn't have any idea it would wipe my entire hard drive.. heh AOL donesn't work, so format the computer GOOD IDEA!

hey ryhton tell mom to try net zero.its supposed to be twice as fast and its cheap..I spent so much time in India today that I still smell curry.thats funny no matter how you look at it..roflmao

I totally dumped aol about 3 years ago. Their tech support was PITIFUL !! if they couldn't solve the problem they told me that an aol rep would contact me. That NEVER happens, but that's the line they give you to make you go away.
I got that BS on 3 separate calls to tech support. When I asked if the rep would contact me through a mailbox that I was unable to access, they told me they have my phone number and would call me. I knew this was Bogus, and each time I asked to speak to a supervisor. They put me on hold for 5 minutes and then told me that they couldn't locate one.
I refuse to do business with ANY company that operates like that.
DUMP AOL...DUMP AOL...DUMP AOL...DUMP AOL...

YEP AOL sucks the big donkey d*ck. I can't stand the fact that you have to click off 3 or four ads when your logged on. I haven't used it in a LONG time. THankgod for Cable modem service.

When it comes to bad foreign customer service I got one word for ya....LINKSYS....don't even think of calling.

IMO AOL is a total crutch for anyone who is somewhat new to the internet. My mom and dad use it and I swear they don't realize that AOL is not necessary to access the rest of the web. I was trying to get my mom to order some movie tickets online and told her to go to fandango and I just watched her for a few minutes and she hopelessly clicked around hoping to find a big link on the AOL home page to send her there she uses it so much she had no idea how to type a website directly into the address bar. I try to get them to dump it and just use road runner with regular IE browser and they say “but, but AOL makes everything so easy I mean its just all right there.” And yeah customer support blows, although I have talked to several Indian techs for software problems who where really good. But the majority of them are pretty bad.

AOL licks fromunda cheese.

This latest ad campaign is a joke and has me scratching my head... Optimized for broadband?? WTF is that? It optimally hogs more resources now that the pipe is bigger? And what are you paying for? The privilege of keeping your precious AOL email account even though you've dumped the dialup and probably have another email account through your broadband provider?

If you have broadband and AOL 9.0 optimized for broadband please tell me about this. Do they actually charge you money? If so, I have this state-of-the-art "Any" key for sale that fits all keyboards.

$20.00.

Per month.

AOL should be shot:sniper: :sniper: :sniper: :sniper: :sniper: :sniper: :sniper: :sniper: :sniper: :sniper: ten times:stickup:

Dont ever join AOL...if you do and after you cancel (and you will because they suck)....they will send you a poop load of those "TRY AOL FOR FREE CD's" in the mail...them keep coming....and coming....i hate junk mail:flaming:

Try calling the phone number on a phone. You should receive the normal modem chater. As least that would tell you the phone number isn't busy.

Has she tried to sign on during off hours? Or does she receive a busy signal no matter what time she tries?

Hence my reason for switching to D-Link for soho networking. Tech support staff speak our version of english.

I remember aol way back in the day when they charged per hour... now that sucked LOL. especially when you get that $200 bill at the end of the month....

Once Broadband came into play and people finally realized that all the content you get on AOL is freely available else where.... AOL membership dropped like mad...

Oh yea and they Suck!
