My center rear dogbone broke lastnight. I think I can weld it back together and machine it so it works properly! Has anyone done this or am I waisting my time? I am going to grind down the edges into a point, put them in a jig, spot weld, straighten, then weld and machine afterwards. Oh yes I am using an arc welder with stainless steel rods.

Don’t even waist your time the weld will be the strongest part but the heat effected zone (the discoloration at the out side of the weld )will break at this point. The only way you can fix this is by stress relive. Heat the part to 1350* and hold for an hour then bring the temp down to ambient within a 200 to 300 * an hr window. Go get a new one.

I am off to the LHS for a new one, I just like "tinkering"
