Sup guys,

I've seen various kits to build three speed trannies around the net. I'm curious if anyone here has experimented with or is running a Three speed or even Four speed tranny in their Maxx? If so how much speed roughly did the third gear add to your top end?

I have about 75% of the parts that I need for my Drag Race Maxx project and I have a feeling that I'm gonna end up with a 3-speed tranny.

Peace

3-4 SPEED CONVERSIONS!!!!! wow never heard of them, I can see if it was a drag but I dont think you would ever hit 4th gear in a maxx bashing or running but whatever just my :2cents:

Hey man,

Yeah....I heard about 3 speed trannies when I discovered the T-maxx itself. Yeah I totally agree with ya. The 3-speed+ application definitely wouldn't be for dirt driving and general bashing but more for high speed runs and Monster Truck drag racing.

Hell, look @ the Schumacher cars and trucks and other mean ass top speed RC's. Most or all have a 3-Speed tranny to get those sick ass 65-70+ MPH claims. A 5HP Nitro engine doesn't mean chit if you can't gradually lower the gear ratio via the tranny.

Peace

I know of a 3 speed but not a 4 speed. If memory serves me right I read on here about them. I think they were saying the small blocks can not generate the power need to get to the 3 gear fast enough to make it particle.

I know for certain that there are three speed trannies out there. El Pirata ran one on his .21 conversion for about a month, and the performance off road sucked so badly that he removed it.

If you want a street ride that goes faster than most, the three speed works, but for off road racing and bashing...stick with the two speed.

3-speed trans... That site makes a 3 speed conversion..But the draw backs are that you have to use 1/8 scale buggy tires due to the gear ratios..But they do have a vid of one running and it sounds wierd hearing it shift 2 times..:\

Yeah..buggy tires look really messed when they are put on a MT like the T..I would rather have it stay as a 2 speed and have some nice rims that look presentable on the T then a set that doesn't..

I figured that a 3 speed on a MT would be bad since the third gear would be too high of a gear to really make any performance off road. Off road needs the torque. Third gear would be like using fifth gear at 30 MPH on a 1:1.

If you use it for highspeed passes on the asphalt then sure, but what's the fun in that?:horsecrap

If i were to get a 3speed, idec gear it so it had the same topspeed as a 2speed but just got there a whole lot faster!!

This thread is two years old and many of the members that posted in it are not as frequent on here as they used to be. The site where the vid was stored no longer has the video, but if you Google three speed RC you might turn one up.
