Anyone looking for a Spool

Thanks for the link. That is good to know for anyone that wants to go to a locked diff. That seems pretty cheap.

You might want to check out the other stuff they have. Lots of aftermarket ideas.

I have that spool, and it's still in the bag. I opted for the Kyosh spider diff mod instead with 20K diff lock oil in the rear, 7K in the front. Much better choice than totally locking the diff.

GPM produces OK parts, but the alloys they use are sometimes kind of weak. I have the GPM tank guard, and it cracked last weekend for no apparent reason. I bash pretty hard, and last weekend was fairly mild, but it cracked. Nuf said.

A spool is a diff lock. It locks the differential. I just read that spools are used primarily for rock hopping. For street use, it'll put horrable strain on the drive train. I don't really know what it would do on dirt tracks, maybe make the rear end squirelier and harder to turn.

A good compromise is putting in diff lock oil. This stuff comes in some really think viscosities (like 10,000 to 30,000wt silicone). About like thick and cold maple syrup. It still lets the diff do it's thing, but adds some limited slip action too. I'm running 30K in the rear of my savage with the spider diff mod, and I love it.

I just use high pressure automotive grease for the diffs lock. Never had a problem with it yet.
