So I bought a skate ramp today and when it arrives I plan on doing some jumps over my local park

Has anyone got any tips that would stop me from smashing up my revo I'm new to nitro and off road and never did jumps with my previous on road battery cars?

Is there an art to jumping anything I should know cheers

well the easy way to learn how to jump is if you are on the gas then your front end goes up if your on the brakes then you front end goes down judt remember that things are faster when you in the air just try to keep the gas steady till you get the hang of it you will crash a couple times but the more you try the better you get hope this helps

Well, you stated you have some experience driving R/C so I guess I can skip the obvious like hit the ramp straight on etc...:wasted:

First is make sure you get enough momentum to not just find yourself barely clearing the top. The idea of course is to "fly".

Once in the air, if the Revo wants to flip backward, let off the throttle entirely or if the rearward flip is real noticeable, hit the brakes while in the air. If it wants to nose dive or do a front flip, give it some gas, not necessarily full throttle, or blip the throttle, which is what I like to do if I need to raise the nose.

I've always found it to be a good idea not to stand in front of the ramp as you jump your rig. It tends to hit you in the "wedding tackle" and can make for a short day.

I thought that was pretty obvious, but I posted a similar question and Beason told me he "jonesed" himself a couple times before he caught on. I just wanted to save you from the same embarrassement as him (shhhh, he's a dink, you know).

Anyhow, jumping is a lot of fun, and no doubt you'll hit a couple off-kilter, but the Revo is a tough rig, so I have no doubt it'll come through with flying colors!

Oh, one other hint I'm sure Beason will pass along as well. If you happen to flip it into a puddle of water (say, deep enough to reach the chassis as it's upside down) it's always a good idea to fish it out BEFORE taking a picture!

Have fun!

the best jumping tip i can give you is always land shiney side up.

i havent hit myself with my rc but i have came VERY close (matrix like buggy coming at my head thing)

the guys are right though try to land flat and level, gas brings the front up and brakes brings it down.

start slow and accelerate slightly as you go up the ramp untill you get the hang of it. then acceleration will give you a better jump additude and bring the front end up just a bit, so you can let off to level it and land it.

then progress faster as you feel comfortable.

check out your ride after any bad landing.

you dont want your wheels spinning fast when you land.

and dont listen to ol monkey. always get pics of the carnage!!!!!

right as you are leaving the jump, completely let go of the gas. That way it will soar straight in the air instead of doing a back smacker. Even it out by braking if the nose goes up or tap the gas if it is doing a nose dive.

i have just woken up and read your replies great stuff Keep them coming!!!!wow theres more to it than i thought...i can't wait to get out there and give it a go my ramp should turn up by thursday...

try and hit the lip at no more than 3/4 throttle if you can....it gives you more RPMs to manipulate the truck in flight...If you leave it at WOT you have no more engine revs to play w/ that gyro effect they was all describing...brake = nose down.....gas = nose up....also if you let off the throttle about 3/4 way up the ramp it releases the suspension form sqating all the way....lets the truck leave the ramp evenly.....make sure your rear suspension is slightly softer than the front....helps give the ass end a "pop" as it leaves the ramp too.....

DAMN I need a cameraman down here....anyone want to come down and bash for a weekend??? I have a huge sand pile I want to jump but I want footage......

LOL...I wish...I still haven't gotten my "christmas" (profit sharing)bonus yet (which is considerably less than I estimated)....new accounting dept and they SUCK.....friggin clueless people should not be in charge of Corporate cash......

plaid, you run the rear softer than the front? i've never tried that. i'm always trying to keep the butt from squatting on the track so the rear is stiffer on mine. does it really jump a lot better that way? i might have to do some swapping next time i go to beasons house!
salmonkid, make sure your suspension, however it's set up, isn't too soft. you'll bottom out a lot on landings and the suspension compressing will kill a lot of the energy you need to get really big air. i make fun of beasons super-stiff springs a lot, but his truck flies like you wouldn't believe.

I make it softer relative to the front....it allows the spring to compress as it's leaving the lip....as the front leaves and the weight is carried forward off th ejump the rear unloads....giving like a lil "ollie" pop......I like just letting it sky lately and try not to think about the repair bill potential.....last day out we used a launch ramp and I swear it must have been 15 to 20ft in the air........it just looks soo big.....

cool. i'm gonna try it on the revo at beasons next bash. i'm starting to get in the mood for another big stupid jump attempt.

I haven't had good luck jumping Revos yet....I can only play w/ other peoples setups and they work for them....I'm more picky on my stuff....

I haven't really messed around enough with jumping my Revo. There is a few little hills I can get about a foot of air with and it handles it really well. Once I get more settled in the new place I'm going to build some 2 foot ramps. That should keep me busy trying to learn how to jump for a while ;)

wel hmm

first you many wanna make sure you have the proper addons and your care is waighted right ... you can use 4 scales to waitgh your car to make sure its even.

when you come to a jump just hit it has fast as you would like you. but compleatly let off gas.

if your car is waighted right it will kinda auto ballance.. for smoth landing allmost every time.. but if you wanna do tricks then well gas= up and break = down..

there are even some ticks if been doing on skate ramps that.. have worked wonders iv been trying barrel rolls and front filps..

front filps = lots of hight and strong gass befor take off then all brake
barrel roll = little speed but fast excl and quick turn and then fast break..
yes the barrel is a hard one.. took me many many broken parts to master it..

for some killer jumping try and get a truck that you can add rear stearing.. that way you can do back flips with twists.. beware they break easy..

My revo flys pretty level. I don't have a huge jump to try it on, but on the jumps that I do have it flies great!

jump

If you are just learning I think the best way is to find a grass hill. You want to have the landing going down hill . If you are having a rough time hitting the ramp then take some stearing out . it will be a lot easier to hit the ramp and you wont tend to over correct just befor you hit the ramp
