RC Drag Racing is probably a smaller hobby than the RC cars & trucks. For that reason, I'd like to share some exciting news.

EBMods is making a P5 Drag Racing Engine with a custom cooling head:

Ed Bridges (EBMods) has designed this engine for Drag Racing only. The somewhat odd looking cooling head (made by Nova RC Products) has been engineered just for drag racing.

For more information, you can visit his website:

www.ebmods.com

Also, if you'd like to ask questions or get more information, this is a direct link to the thread on his forum about the engine:

Also, drag racing engines isn't where Ed's services stop either. He can mod any nitro engine for any application (onroad racing, offroad racing, tether car racing, airplanes -- you name it). You can check out his website for details and pricing.

why the smaller head ? less drag ? looks nicely machined

also how far the cars race for ?

honestly, I have no clue on all the qestions you asked. If you signed up for his forum and asked Ed, he would answer ya. He spends many many hours in the shop doing engines but he gets on the computer at least once a day.

If I were to hazard a guess, I don't think Drag Racing engines run for very long. You start them up, get them to temp and then have a short race that's lasts only a few seconds. The weird head must have something to do with warming the engine up or making sure it doesn't cool down too much. It could be a weight thing too. I'm just guessing though.

On a related note, Nova RC Products (guys that made that head) is making a thermal control head. You add/remove layers to/from it to raise/lower your engine temps. For example, you take your RC out in the snow. It's 32 degrees or lower outside. Your engine temp won't get above 200 after you retune it (I did that exact thing a couple of weeks ago. I didn't have any snow, but it was about 32 out and I couldn't get my temps up.) Those low temps can cause wear on the P/S because the sleeve is not properly expanded at those temps.

Anyway the point of the Thermal Control heads is to remove some of the cooling properties of the head and get the engine up to a safe temp. It's pretty cool stuff. I think the new heads are going to ship sometime this month. I'm temped to get one myself. :)

We appreciate the info you have posted, its good.
Please just come out and say look at the new forum I am involved with. Linking back to threads on another forum is tacky.
If you feel the need to advertise it please post a link in the link section and be done, otherwise feel free to make informative posts and share your knowledge. We have gotten complaints from other users that believe you are spamming the site with links.

I would have sent you a PM but you have chosen to disable the function.
