As the title says so does any one use 20 percent fuel and how about ditching the stock starting set up? Ya guys lean towards a pull start set up ? I am trying to sell/trade a nitro truck i have that could go towards a 4.6 rtr . I have 90 percent left of a gallon of 20 percent fuel and a hand full of med plugs and a few hot plugs and all the stuff is only like 2 weeks old and i want to try to put it to use or try to package it with my nitro i am selling to get 30 percent/cold plugs. Oh yeah local guy does carry 33% top fuel but it really is hit or miss at 35.00 out the door

All i run now is 20% with medium plugs in all my nitro rigs. When i was racing touring sedans, i used 30% with a medium-hot turbo plug but that was a long time ago.
I use to use 30% and a cold plug but like you this was years ago well over 12 years ago . I am liking this savage idea more and more lol. What a beast of a rtr truck hands down under the lid just out right makes me smile.:D

I ran 20% until last year, with mc8 plugs. The trucks ran great. I run 30% VP powermaster now, and have been very happy with it.

i was looking at vp but my local guy is hit or miss for the traxxas blend but i think if i get there early enough i can get a bottle but i have my med and hot plugs and i would love to USE what i have to save some money. I am trying every which way to get a savage i might have to wait tell next month but man i am all most in need of one lol.

I use 20% Traxxas fuel and I have no issues with it. They advertise that the fuel replaces the need for after-run oil, but I still spray a couple shots of WD-40 if my truck is going to sit for more than two or three days.

I don't race RC cars/trucks so I have no desire to put anything higher than 20% and I do not need to enhance any performance for bashing.

Though I am very new to the hobby, I have done research on fuels for RC vehicles. What I have discovered is that, outside of racing them, it is best to go with an RC fuel percentage as the manual suggests and, if possible, stay with the same brand. I picked a fuel based on availability and the percentage suggested for the product.

O'Donnell's fuel is cheaper and the gentleman from the local hobby shop said that he used it and Traxxas through the same RC trucks/cars and he noticed absolutely no difference. I asked if he had to tune them when he switched. He said, "No."

I run 20%, 25%, and 30% ...really just depending on the engine. On my 4.6 I run Byron's 20% with a #6 (A3) plug.

I'd question his tuning prowess if that is the case. Over the past nine months I've been testing out a variety of fuels and 100% of the time I've had to tweak the carb settings to keep the same tune. Sometimes it's very subtle (I mean it's not like your engine will stop running when switching fuels) but what I've learned is that fuel makes a huge difference in optimizing your race tune. It might be a little difficult sensing it until you've gained a keen eye (ear) for it...but wow does fuel brand make a difference. Really....I never would have thought so myself until I started trying different brands.

Regarding %....I don't have a keen ear for that yet. Meaning I really doubt if someone were to sneak 20% in an engine where I run 30% that I'd even notice a difference. And unless you are some kind of nitro jedi...I doubt many folks could actually could determine the difference at a consistent rate. ;-)

I do know my 'best tuned' engines run 30%. But most guys locally run 20% and their engines sound just as monstrous.

I actually was suspicious of his knowledge when he said it. I even asked twice to be sure that he was sure of himself. However, I have never ran the O'Donnell's so I have to give him the benefit of the doubt until I hear otherwise. I too believe that sticking to one brand is probably the safest bet.

I don't even know if brand makes all that much difference either. I hear people hate on Traxxas but I can't see any issues. There again, I am new and I haven't ever used anything else. I base my opinion on my understanding of combustion and 2-stroke engines. Outside of RC racers or high performance kits, I doubt brand of the same nitro percentage would play much of a factor in the performance of the engine. It might have some effect on the glow plugs or where the sweet spot of the tune is from one to the next.

So why can't you use what you have? Savage will run on 20% with a medium plug.

Oh i will lol. i just need to find a good running used one or sell off a nitro truck and get a new rtr. I am thinking about a mgt 4.6 to save a few bucks

I like 20 percent and a hot plug but i just wanted to see if 30-33% would be better for a big block? I use to have a .25 motor and a 1/8 raze and in that buggy i used 33% and a cold plug but this was years ago

I use traxxas fuel as of now, i buy what i can get local for the best price. I can tell you what happens or where the hate comes from is most guys had issues with there 2.5 motors and traxxas all ways force feeds there OTHER stuff on you and you HAVE to use there top fuel. So when guys went with other brands/blends and with say a medium plug SOME of the over heating issues seamed to get better. For me i do not hate traxxas i just dislike if you call them its traxxas and there is no other company out there. Like when people used after market cooling heads traxxas said oh no our motors are just fine do not use a after market cooling head. Then what do they do? The 2.5r with the better cooling head hit the market and it was ok to buy there cooling head for added cooling etc. .There a joke give them a call its like talking to a no it all that is all wrong and not wiling to budge. I was cut off 4 or 5 times to well seeing if they could go over tune pipes.

i think that is what redcat has with there nitro starter pack . Tower hobbies has a good deal on it and i as thinking about trying i like the metal can but for now my best deal is going to the local guy. If i order online new for my savage 4.6 i will throw around the idea switching to that blend and avoid the hobby store all together. They really have fazed out there nitro support other then a few beat to hell trucks/cars/buggy's. thanks for the pic

I really like Byrons race 2000 20% nitro with 12% lubrication. It runs very well in all of my engines and it's not as messy as byrons rtr 20% or traxxas 20%. My Savage xl with the 5.9 would have trouble starting if I used a fuel with more than 12% oil. I use the plug that's recommended with my engines manufacturers with the exception of my hpi 5.9 which gets a McCoy 59.

i think hpi gives you cold plugs, and a extra one . I am looking at the 4.6 i still have not sold my sc10gt so its up in the air what i am going to do. I would love a savage but i am thinking of maybe listing my truck here but i do not want to ship anything that large so i might have to bite the bullet hold my truck and pick up a cheaper truck or go for a roller from ebay. I would never ever buy a rtr from ebay . Any ways i use traxxas blend its not really WHAT i want to use but the local store has it and its the best price i can find or less i go for some off name stuff from ebay.

I just priced fuel today online since I'm not sure if my lhs is going to carry the fuel I used last year. The fuel was sidewinder 20% with 12% oil for 98 bucks but the hazmat fee was another 28 bucks. I'm going to have to get it in a pinch if my lhs doesn't carry it. I hate retuning my engines for new fuel because it takes about two tanks to get a good tune and it's almost like wasting fuel imho. I would wait for the savage because you'll be better off in the long run instead of buying a cheap one now and then possibly buying the savage later which would almost be a waste of money.
