HD dogbones, check the shift point set screw, turn the shock bolt around (near the tank), burn good fuel, and beat the snot out of it every chance you get.

If you install the reverse module, be shure to lube the gears and the coupler bushing that goes through the housing. Think about changing the shock oil, the factory oil works but is rather thin and the suspension is pretty mushy. Use a little thread locker on the wheel nuts, they like to loosen up. Install a good air filter like the Motor Saver and an in-line fuel filter. A non esential touch is to put a piece of plastic tubing over the pipe and clamp with a small hose clamp, extend the exhaust down to the bottom of the chassis side plate. This helps keep some of the oils and fuel from messing everything up along the side of the truck.
Most important is to be paitent and do the engine breakin slowly and carefully. It is boring and you want to just go but taking you time will give you new engine more life and better performance. And lastly, keep the Savage away from moving full size vehicles, it cannot win! Enjoy.

Follow the instructions on breaking it in. Personally, I'd avoid using Trinity Monster fuel. And definately turn that shock bolt, by the tank, the other way. Take it from someone who's had that bolt puncture their gas tank.

What shock oil weight do you recommend? 35-45? Also can the stock engine lift the front wheels off the ground in grass? Is the center skid plate worth it? Cause it doesn't seem protected.

Steve

I run 60wt oil in my shocks, but 35-45 will do. The stock engine will lift the wheels when properly broken in and dialed in. Protection is always a good thing. The center skid is a good idea (if you intend to bash...for racing it is only so much extra weight).

I'm running 35 in the front and 40 in the rear and the handling is good. I doubt the factory 21bb engine will lift the front end. The center skid plate might have it's place but I haven't put one on. I'm trying to keep exspenses to a minimum. I did replace the 4 upper arms with Golden Horizon adjustable aluminum, the factory non-adjustable arms had the chamber different on all four wheels. I replaced the air filter with a Motor Saver with foam outter cover, added a Roto Start, and Reverse Module. About the only other things were to go to a '73 Bronco body and go to a 6 volt receiver pack. Oh yeah, I am running with a Futaba 3 channel FM radio system (I hate the standard AM one).
