OK. Stupid question. But you don't have to keep your antenna on the truck pointing straight up, right? I was thinking about laying it down and routing it through the rear of the truck. Would it still work and get good range?
 
The best position for distance is up and down.
When we race on a small track we hide the antenna.
The best way is to use a rectangle of lexon and make small grooves on the long outside edges and wrap the antenna around it leaving several MM between the wraps so the antenna wire doesn't touch itself.

You mount the short end of the lexon somewhere in the rc so it is secure and so it doesn't bounce around and touch anything metal.

I have seen some pretty cool mounting options. Be creative and remember your distance will be reduced.
 
That last pic the one your are talking about is Backspurs truck that is a shrink wrap deal and its slick that is what I was telling you about ed a few weeks ago. X
