It was a really freaking cold day. I drove for about an hour to meet with El Pirata (aka Master of Disaster) and his room mate. It was worth it when on the first pull my Fantom fired right up (EP and John spent about ten minutes to never trying to get theirs running). I proceeded to take mine through its paces and then hit the jump. Nice landings on three of four jumps...the fourth landing...grrrrrr
My day ended after about a 1/3 of a tank of gas on the fourth jump. Let's just say that cold weather and plastic do not mix. I now have a really freakin' good excuse to go out and pick up those Hardcore Racing bulkheads I've been eyeballing for about a year. Yup, that's right. I didn't quite pull out of the tail first landing that I watched in agonizing slow motion...my T-Maxx landed ass first and that was all she wrote. Took the bulkhead right apart. The bulkhead brace and bumper bracket portion sheared right off. The middle section split like a piece of safety glass (all shattered with no separation). The plastic skid plate was also toast.
As for John...his busted 2.5 Maxx with the TRX Pro .15 never had a chance...old engine sitting idle for far too long drained his EZ Start battery before he could really get it running. EP, his .21 Maxx kept trying to eat his clutch until he took it apart and went leading edge on the shoes. By the time he got things going again, his daughter was saying, "Poppee, where's the bathroom? Poppee, when are we going home? Poppee...." At that point I stopped my wrenching and so did EP. We left for warmer locations.
Maybe next time, huh, EP?
BTW here are a couple of shots of the remnants of my two bulkheads and skid plate (thanks EP for donating your old bulkheads to my cause, I'll return them when I get my Al ones from Hardcore Racing):
Bits and pieces:
Screw in place to show the shattered portion of the bulkhead:
