Why does my glow plug go bad every after half a tank? Theres something wrong, I'm using mc-59...

You could either be running too rich or too lean. What temps are you running at?

What do the plugs look like when they go? Also, hook it up to your glo ignitor source and watch the coil. Is it bright all the way down the coil?

Lastly, what are you using for power to the plug? Are you sure thats not the prob?

well u got that right there is something wrong glow plugs should last longer I'm not sure but maybe christian or some1 could help u if u pm them

sry i posted to late

i dont know my temp...my plug wont even glow if i put it in the igniter....and the coil they dont look like a coil anymore...it looks like a straight wire...

Bad Plug

Get a new one and try it on the ignitor. Hold it with needle nose pliars (the new one) while you connect it to the glo ignitor. If the whole coil glows then you know your power source is good.

Lets see where we go from there....

I tried that...my igniter works fine...the new glow plug turns red...but the after i put it in then run the car maybe hafl a tank or a little more it dies when i check the glow plug the coil is just a straight wire and it doesn't turn red at all.

Set the needles back to factory, turn the HSN in 1/4 turn from there and leave the LSN alone. Tune the low just enough so it doesn't bog. Take it from there.

The only other thing I could think of was whether or not you are running plugs that are too long.

This is interesting.

turn the HSN 1/4 counter or clock wise? I'm using a mc-59 glow plug.

The MC-59 should be fine. 1/4 turn clockwise.

MAKE SURE you set BOTH needles back to factory before you do the 1/4 turn on the HighSpeedNeedle!!!

I'm thinking (speculating) the needles may be way too lean right now. But thats all it is, speculation.

Another question for you: When you are starting it, do you hear a metal-to-metal 'PING' sound? I'm thinking if the rod is stretched, you could be banging the piston head into the plug. And are you using the gold washer on your plugs?

I have it on factory setting....i just got the truck not long ago..but yes i got gold washers the came with the plug....no ping sound..i dont think I'm running lean cause i can see smoke coming out of the exhaust when i accelerate.

:argue: I'm arguing with myself now as I am almost out of ideas...

The only other thing I would suggest then is to lean the HSN out a little bit from where you are at. Maybe you are too rich.

What % fuel are you running?

How many tanks do you get through before the plug blow and what speed are you usually going when it goes?

Are you checking your temps? If so, what are they after a high speed run?

Christian gave you all the right answers.
Did you buy all of your plugs from the same place at the same time? There is a remote chance you got some bad plugs.

Take the head off and see if you have anything floating around inside.
