I ran my savage yesterday and can't get the tuning right, it's leaning out when give it ful throttle, and when the throttle is released, it takes awhile before the rev goes down. And even if i richen it up it still runs the same. The temp reached upto 350F.

After opening up the engine to check for airleaks I discovered that it was comming from the center of the backplate (where the starting shaft goes out. It was wet with oil), while inspecting I noticed that the bottom side of the conrod(the one facing the backplate) was stripped and the tiny minute pieces of aluminum was all over inside the engine. Sad to say that it also gave me a loose piston and sleeve. this is the rebuilt engine that i recieved from hpi. This is also the case why i sent my old engine back to them.

I can't figure out why the conrod's side gets shredded when the temp gets to that temp, or is it just a coincidence that it happened that there is really something wrong with the engine.

Sorry for the long post. please advice......
tnx

There is something definately wrong with that engine. Can't say for certain without pix, but the rear part of the conrod shouldn't contact the backplate at all. The glitter is aluminum that's being shaved off the backplate and the conrod. This will cause the temps to climb like you stated. 350 is way too hot. Also, these pieces of glitter will get into the piston/cylinder and cause even more friction, and thus more heat. As much of a pain in the ass as it would be, I'd contact HPI again and explain that this is the second time that this has happened and see if they'll replace it.

I'm assuming that you're using a rotostart. I personally have one, and I don't use it for a number of reasons. I think that rotos are hard on 1 way bearings, and the starter shaft if the engine is tight (like new ones usually are).

Also, it's always a good idea to take the backplate off of a new engine first thing and check to see if the crank case if free of metal shavings and other debris before you start the breakin process. I have seen engines right out of the box have metal shavings in the case from the machining process.

Can someone please put up the contact info for HPI??? I'm in Canada and need to call them too, in regards to my engine..

Thx in advance
