RC Driving Style
Which Aluminum clutch shoes is everone running and how heavy of a clip should I shoot for? Looking for a nice hard launch, running a Savage with ported .25 and header. Thanks
 
I'm running Kyosho aluminum shoes on my buggy, they've been run for about 2 days and I'm taking them off today. IMO they grab too much (more like all at once) and I've heard that aluminum shoes tear up clutchbells.

I was told that you need to run heavier clips with the alum. shoes because they "stick" or hook up well with bell. Maybe a medium spring to help get the r's up before it engages? I can run hard for two tanks and my stock shoes get glazed but they almost have two gallons on them now. Maybe I should stick with more composite shoes.....
 
Yeah, I hear ya on sticking. The first time I was running them, they stuck. I had to pull the engine because the shoes and the bell were stuck together. It was kind of strange. Just my opinion though. if you do try the aluminum, I'd definately get heavy springs.

I just ordered the white mugen shoes for mbx-5 and the 1.1 clutch springs for them. These sre for my savage and are supposed to hit really hard. The performance is suppused to be unbelievable for these shoes and springs for the savage. SO if you want your savage to do wheelies or have that much bite at the bottom , this is the set-up to get. There just might be another option in the clutch world soon enough. Error401 and I got something in the works. I used heavy springs on my Alum clutch and I just like that smooth hook that the alum shoes don't seem to give. All the heavy springs was delay the engagement to a higher rpm, the engagement was still to ubrubt in my mind. At the higer RPM when they finally do engage it cause too much wheel spin and traction doesn't get put down to well. It "peels out".
 
I am running the Nova shoes. They are awesome. Same weight as the stock ones, but they are threaded to accept set screws that are provided with the kit. Adding set screws makes them heavier and changes how they perform...Available as 2,3, or 4 shoe sets...

I am using the Ofna gold springs
