Airfilter oil substatute

Yes i no there are many threads on airfilter oil but i just want to clear this up. okay so i hear you can use vegitable oil but then i hear its not good. i also hear MMO is good but then its also too thin. Another one i hear is chainsaw oil and transmission oil and many others. But what is a good one that is good to use and that does not have a negative effect on something. and yes i no one of you guys are gonna just say "just go to your LHS and get some real AFO" but I'm just wondering what i can use if i run out. If any one has any tips write em down id appreciate it. but an oil that is usually laying around the garage not like the motercycle airfilter oil , I'm just looking for a basic oil

I would think that any oil that is fairly tacky like air filter oil is would work. As long as it doesn't chemically react with anything than it should work...

MMO and Automatic transmission oil is great for AFO. You need something that specifically says for foam filters.

I just got this jug of oil from a local bike shop. 29$ for 1 liter.

as opposed to 10$ for 60ml when you buy it from the LHS.

i have used trans fluid before. bar and chain oil(chainsaw) is not good couse its a "dry" oil. i have also used 2 stroke oil when in need.

K&N is all I've used. Works great and the red looks cool!

As long as it's tacky then it should work. Like if you put a little on some paper and let it dry it should stick to stuff.

Honestly, I kind of cheat a little bit because I use K&N filter oil for the paper filters... It's not as thick as the normal oil but it's tacky. I just put alot on. Not enough to rob performance but it pools up if you squeeze the filter.

I'd say ATF cause its about the same viscosity. If no one had used it i'd say test it for foam munching capabilities first but since others use it then its all cool. Probably the cheapest alternative too

I heard that belray oil is hard to get out, is this true, cause i wanna go get some but if i put some in and then it never comes out then I'm not gonna use it. i heard it only comes out with brake cleaner, so can anyone clear this up
