OK, I got to run a tank through my Hyper 8 port... It actually started on the 2nd pull... I set the idle with my trim & let it run for a bit... I then noticed an irregular idle (low rpm, then high sputtering, then low & so on) It was doing that all through the first tank with a few stalls here & there, always starting right back up. Does this sound like the infamous Hyper carb airleak ???

I just ordered a NIP OS 20E carb from RCBoyz for $45.
What I dont understand, is that when I give it a bit of throttle and let it rev, the sputtering goes away. If there was an airleak, wouldn't happen all the time? Any ideas...
 
My last OS acted that exact same way when I had an air leak, if I kept the throttle a little high it would run ok, not good but ok, at idle though it did exactlly what you described. I never found the exact spot of the leak due to the fact I just sealed it all at once, the backplate, and carb, and replaced the fuel lines as well. Have you tried sealing the carb until you get your OS?
 
I'll have to take it out and inspect tomorrow... What do you use to seal the carb ???
 
Well, I pulled the carb & checked the o-rings on the neck... They looked a bit pinched... I bought a new set, reinstalled it & everything went well through my 2nd tank of breakin... Started right up on the 2nd pull after priming it up good... I can tell this motor is going to have some serious power...lol
My sons reaction to the new .21 conversion...lol

Yea the kid is cool and all but where is the damm truck LOL...

(Kid=my nephew and he really is a cool kid)
 
TJ- your little dude looks like a metal head in training. Are you still going with the OS carb, cause we all know how rock solid those things are.

Yep, I'm still ordering the OS carb... Although, I did get the air leak somewhat solved, I still think the OS will be easier tuning in the long run...
The little guy is going to be in the pit one day.....lol
