Ok I am tired of the small filter on the 21bb. Is the upgrade filter from HPI any good. As I can get that at my lhs right now but to get any others they will have to be ordered in.

if it's the same as the motor saver filter, then it's worth it. The motor saver has a big outside foam element, and a dense high flow oiled element inside a screen cage. It rocks!

The HPI high performance air filter is the same as the Motor Saver. In fact when you buy replacement filters for the HPI they ship with the same instructions as the Motor Saver filters do.

There's also a small mod you can do with the HPI/Motor Saver air filter which can be found here

Saw that before Woodie. Where does the filter end up inrelation to the rollbar? I have the motor saver, but the elbow puts the filter in an awkwark spot. I would have thought that they would have made the carb side a bit longer and the angle a tad less. That way it would have been right over the tranny.

error401,

Enjoy -

Thanks Woodie! I'm off to rob parts from my POS 4-tec right now. Does it improve the HP any? That's just a bonus if it does.

Thanks,
Whitt....

Thanx Guys

Looks like I will be picking one up tomorrow as they also had some extra foam I can purchase for it.

woodie-yours is just as pretty and clean as mine. do you get all the talk about "now go out and get it dirty!" ?

I saw the pictures that HPI has on the web site showing the upgrade filter. Sometimes I wonder where these people who are supposed to be educated have the brains. Anyway, the one picture shows the air filter sicking all but straight out the right side of the chassis. What's is wrong with this picture? What's wrong is the lame 90 degree angle on the coupler tube. Will that not be very close to hitting the body and risk getting knocked off in a nasty roll? I'd think so. A little common sense shows as in the above pictures that you really need an angled coupler. I could not find one so after some thought and digging, I came up with an old but unused rubber header pipe from an old Losi GTX (yes they had a rubber header pipe). Cutting that off and zip tieing worked great to put the filter inside the roll bar and clear of the spur gear. Good buy factory cheezy filter, hello Motor Saver.
Everything really good is considered a "Hop-Up" and costs extra.

As for getting knocked off, it won't (trust me I gave it a few really good "tests"). The thing that worried me about the elbow was the it put the filter right up against the HSN. In a really extreme bashing, it might damage the HSN, and that would suck. If I'm not mistaken, the MS for the T-max had an elbow that should have put the filter almost horrizontal, but I'm positive that it wouldn't fit the carb on the 21bb.
