I'm not even sure filter oil has a weight rating - but I do know that in a pinch, folks have used 30w motor oil and been fine.

if you can not get a container of filter oil from your local auto parts store, or motorsports store, then just use regular 30wt oil. K&N filter oil, although pricey works just fine but there are less expensive brands out there.

Do you guys clean the inner foam that often? I mean i've bought this tiny Team Associated air filter oil bottle, cost me next to nothing and it's lasted me forever, I clean the filter only when gunk and mud actually hits the outer foam...which does not happen that often.

Just wondering ;)

Mmm...really? Is this what everybody's doing cause i've never had any problems cleaning them. Little rinse in fuel then more oil and it goes back in. Mind you it was never really dirty, just sorta brownish sometimes from dirt.

You can clean a filter with nitro fuel. Dang, brad....

Also, you can use the search engine for a lot of the more common questions. This one right here has been asked more times than I can count...

Dont just buy the small bottles at the LHS, go to a off-road place, or online, and but a LARGE bottle that they use for dirt bike filters.

have always just used the nitro fuel to rinse out filters and re-use never had any problems and if i remember right in most manuals it tells u them same thing

Dont clean the inner, always replace.

WTF?

You can easily clean the inner with nitro fuel or even dish soap and water.

Just make sure you let it dry completely before applying filter oil.

Traxxas recommends dish soap and water in the manual for my 2.5, so that is what I'll be doing haha. :)

my brother gave me some kinda air filter oil he had for his quad its a spray can says on it that its super taky something or other but seems kinda thin he says don't worrie it will work good. is he right

I use a drop of 10w or 20w silicone shock oil, similar viscosity to the air filter oil i had once. Works just fine. Besides which, shock oil works out at a damn site less ££ than the filter oil does in comparison at the same quantities.

When I don't have actual filter oil I will usually just use 10w-30. Thats only when I don't have actual filter oil.
