I'm looking to have a central air-conditioner installed in my home.
Does anyone have any experience in what to look for or avoid?

We have all the hookups for the electricity and pipes as well as the furness and controls. All this was in when we had the house built.

I just don't know jack about the units themselves.

What do you have? Forced hot air heat? Sears, would be the place to start, I work with a couple guys who came frome Sears. They said even though they were treated badly, the customer was always number 1. First thing you need to do is calculate how many BTU's you will need.

ED check out this forum there are some good people on here. I talked to them when I moved into my house and my furnace poop the first time I turned it on.. They know there poop and will help you out atleast 4 or 5 contractors ... http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/hvac/ X
