I know this may seem like a stupid question but is it necessary to use after run oil after every run or just a couple times a week:)

I tend to use it if I am going to store it. I only use my Savage on the weekends so I put ARO in it. To be safe you can just use a quick spray of WD40 down the carb hole and glow plug and let the engine spin a bit. That should keep it lubricated until the next run.

i believe its only nessisary when storing, if you plan on using i often i wouldnt bother

I had a t-maxx years ago and left it in storage for like 10 monthes no aro and fired right up. Also wd-40 dries up after a little bit of time its not oil like everyone thinks.

and how do you know when the piston is at the bottom of the stroke?

when you take out the glow plug to put in the after run you need to turn the engine over so the afterrun gets throu the whole motor! look @ the piston throu the hole where the glow plug was and make it stop @ the bottom do this when the mill is still warm or it will defeet the whole purpose hope this helps:)

I use Marvel Mystery Oil (it's the same as hobbico ARO) a quart cost around 5$ and lasts for years. I use it at the end of the day even if I'm going to run it in a few hours I still put it in only need a few drops to coat the internals. WD-40 in the engine is fine for short term storage but WD-40 evaporates after several hours leaving no protection for your engine, there is also some debate as to weather or not it breaks down the O-rings over time.

WD-40 is a water displacement lubricant. It will evaporate and be worthless to an engine, it would be bad for o-rings and seals because it will break them down over time.
